On Friday, February 4, 2011, New Hyde Park Fire Department Volunteer Firefighter Max Devane of Estates Engine Company No. 3 was seriously injured while battling a basement fire on 6th Avenue in New Hyde Park. Max required five weeks of hospitalization and rehabilitation to recover from his injuries and continues his recovery at home. Max was forced to withdraw from his college classes and has missed an entire semester of school due to his hospitalization and ongoing recovery. Max may not be able to resume his summer job due to his ongoing recuperation.
The members of Estates Engine Company No. 3 and Protection Engine Company No. 2 of the New Hyde Park “Volunteer” Fire Department will hold “A Night for Max” fundraiser on April 29 from 7 to 11 p.m. at Protection Engine Company No. 2’s firehouse at 11 South 5th Street, across the street from Holy Spirit Church, in New Hyde Park.
Admission for this one time event will be $20 and will include food, drink, music, and raffle prizes for all to enjoy. If you are unable to attend “A Night for Max” fundraiser, you can make a donation to the “Max Devane Fund.” All donations and fundraiser proceeds will be used to offset Max’s expenses related to the college semester he was forced to miss.
Donation checks may be made payable to the “Max Devane Fund” and mailed to the New Hyde Park Fire Department, 1555 Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park, New York 11040.
Our community is strong because of fine young men like firefighter Max Devane. Max stepped up to the plate to protect the people of New Hyde Park and the people of New Hyde Park have always supported those who have done so. Often, we only hear about young people in trouble. Max is a positive role model for his generation. The members of the New Hyde Park Fire Department are proud to call him our brother.
Thank you in advance for your generosity. Your demonstration of support for Max is greatly appreciated by his family, friends, members of the New Hyde Park Fire Department, and the Max Devane Fund Committee. We hope to see you on April 29.
