Health and Safety Fair
Gardiners Avenue Elementary School, in Levittown, will be hosting its first community Health and Safety Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fair will be featuring many venders specializing in first aid, home safety, including the Wantagh Fire Department, disability information for adults and children, financial planning, helpful health tips for our families and more. There will also be free blood pressure screening available. The NYS Masonic Safety ID Program will be joining the fair as well. The objective of the NYMSIP is to assist law enforcement agencies in the safe and timely recovery of lost or missing children, young adults or senior citizens. The NYMSIP is a fantastic comprehensive child identification service available to our community. The fair is open for the entire family at no charge. An appearance from our Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray is scheduled. There will be entertainment for children of all ages and snacks will be available.

Long Island Water Conference
As a part of National Drinking Water Week, the LI Water Conference is holding its 26th annual Best Tasting Water contest, May 2-5, at Farmingdale State College, 2350 Broadhollow Rd. A community booth will be located inside the First Stop Café at the campus commons from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The LIWC invites everyone, including students and patrons, to the booth and sample water from over two-dozen LI water suppliers and vote which community has the best tasting water on LI. The winner will move on to the NYS Competition. The LIWC is an association of LIwater suppliers whose members serve over 90 percent of Nassau and Suffolk Counties an area more populous than 20 states. Parking will be limited near the café due to construction.

Protect Assets in the Event of Long Term Illness
An informative seminar presented by Margaret Carrozza, Esq. What you need to know about the recent estate tax changes, the programs will also focus on how to manage a loved one’s assets when he/she is no longer capable, how to protect one’s home and other assets when a loved one needs long term care, estate planning – what happens when the “well” spouse dies first and other estate and tax planning issues. Flower and Plant Sale
Farmingdale Special Education PTA will host its annual flower and plant sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Woodward Parkway Elementary School. Students will attend the sale with their classes. This annual fundraiser will feature flats of annuals, hanging baskets and more. The money raised helps fund scholarships, awards and other programs for special needs students. Once again, SEPTA thanks PJ McBride Tent Company for the donation of the tent. The sale is open to the public.

America’s Poets Walk With Walt
The program, which will be held at the birthplace of America’s Good Gray Poet at 246 Old Walt Whitman Rd., Huntington Station, will be hosted by Whitman Birthplace Writer in Residence George Wallace. The program will pair a nationally prominent visiting writer with one of Long Island’s fine regional poets for a program of poetry and conversation. Individual tickets to the series will be on sale in advance, or at the door, for $15 per ticket or $70 for the full series. Stroke Life Society is a community organization of survivors and co-survivors in the pursuit of living and helping others. A stroke can be very isolating.
