There is always so much going on in Oyster Bay it is just amazing. The oyster sloop Christeen was re-launched into the bay… with its mast still to be installed – on Saturday morning. Phil Blocklyn, Oyster Bay Historical Society executive director attended and said the fire companies managed to spray the entire crowd as part of the fun.

Mr. Blocklyn spoke later that day at the OBHS preservation seminar for people to learn how to save their personal documents. Nicole Menchise, librarian and curator gave the presentation and Mr. Blocklyn showed the how to repair a book correctly. One person brought along a family mommento, a childhood book she and her sisters read and loved to death. Mr. Blocklyn said it would be best preserved in a book box. The two are the go-to people if you have historic material to preserve.
Father Peter Casparian was busy that day, first blessing the Christeen and later back at Christ Church which was running a benefit for Haiti.
We met Father Casparian and Ms. Aitken on Saturday evening as the Youth & Family Counseling Agency of OB-EN held a fundraiser at the home of Robin and Enrique Senior. This year instead of a silent raffle they offered Mardi Gras necklaces for a donation. Guests were able to coordinate the beads with their outfits. It was a great idea; a great party; with a great number of generous guests.
Sunday, for us was a day to finish the Meet the Candidates story. As the evening ended we listened to President Barack Obama solemnly tell the nation about the death of Osama Bin Laden after a 10 year search for the man who ordered the attack on the World Trade Towers on 9/11.
Next week we plan to run the board of education candidates bios and statements to fill in the picture for the vote on Tuesday, May 17.
