April 27th – The rain held up for the Dodgers and Royals on Wednesday night for a great game by both teams. The Dodgers played well on both sides of the ball. Great offensive efforts by Justin Rosen who was 4-4 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI’s. Nicholas Ungania and Ralph Bonelli both contributed with their first doubles of the season. Stephen Bracco had 4 hits; Nicholas Ungania, Nicholas Rubinic, Joseph Mattei, Daniel Simmons and William Vasilakos all contributed with 3 hits each. Justin Rosen also added a single-handed double play at first base. Great effort against a very good Royals team.
Merillon Minors BAB Mechanical Fireballs (1)
vs Syosset Comets (17)
After a couple of rained out games the Fireballs were ready to hit the field. Isabella Fazzolari started on the mound and showed good control and speed on her pitches. Sophia Leeds came on in relief striking out several batters. Sophia also had a great game defensively and got our team’s only hit. Silvana Seidita played a very solid first base taking part in several put outs. Stephanie Zovich did a fine job catching and covering the plate. Shortstop Michaela Zabicki and third baseman Samantha Grenard played their positions well, at the plate both walked and stole bases. Centerfielder Elise Gonzales did a good job of tracking the ball and made a great catch on a pop-fly. Melanie Feinsilver found her swing, making contact both times at the plate. Gia Yetikyel walked and played a good left field. Rachel Moss started off the last inning with a walk and came around to score our only run. A tough game, we needed to be tighter on defense in the first few innings, but there were positives and the team improved defensively as the game progressed. Go Fireballs!

Sportography Giants (9)
The Rays dropped a tough game 9-4 to the great Giants. After 2 scoreless innings by both sides, thanks in no small part to the strong pitching from Joey Jacobs, the Rays jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning due to keen eyes at the plate and smart base running by Charlie Goodwin and Joey Jacobs, and a run-scoring ground-out by Brian Volk. The Giants battled back to take a 9-2 lead at the end of the fourth inning despite the solid mound work of Charlie Goodwin and Sean McClellan. The Rays gave it their best efforts to fight back and stage an epic comeback, but despite 5th inningruns by Brian Volk and Sean McClellan, the rally fell short, and the game ended as a 9-4 loss. Despite the loss, the Rays once again played well in the field, highlighted by the defensive prowess of Jack Tucker, Joe Sullivan, Jake Dieber, Tyler Dauble, Angelo Ferrigno and Matthew Solomon.
Dominick’s Italian & American Delicatessen Mariners (2)

In a pitching duel between two staff aces, the mighty Mariners fell to the Orioles 3-2 in a game that also featured stellar defense from both sides. The Mariners started out well by scoring two quick runs in the first inning behind a lead-off single by Andrew Colgan, a double by Jimmy Denara and back-to-back singles by Dominick Picirrillo and John Denara. Mariners’ pitcher Andrew Colgan had a no-hitter going into the fourth before the Orioles got on the board with three runs, high-lighted by a Thomas Haug double. The Mariners threatened again in the bottom of the fourth after Michael Zuschlag led-off with a single to right, followed by singles from Thomas Mangin and Nick Lopez, but Orioles’ ace Thomas Messina pitched out of the bases-loaded jam by striking out the next three batters. Leading the Mariners’ defense was Parth Patel, who snared a bullet at third base that nearly took his glove off and fired to second for a force-out. Harrison Nettler and Brandon Knupfer

The Cubs came out strong this week and were led by outstanding hitting by Aaron Canese, Evan Merensky and Logan Golia, each with 3 hits, driving in Marco Gullo, Christopher Gould and Brendon Coogan, each scoring twice. Defensively Arjun Bhatt had a great day at 3rd and Christian Zamora played asolid catcher. Daniel Garci, Joseph Leonard and James Gensch provided outstanding defense in the field making several put outs in the infiled. Lets Go Cubs!

Piccolo Gourmet Rangers
As April begins to heat up, so are the Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks defense helped keep the game close. Cenzo Montoni, Mathew Merolla, Nickolaus Levkulic, and Chrisopher Bruccoleri made many outstanding plays at second, first, shortstop, and third respectively. The Rangers did their darnedest to complete a game winning rally in the sixth, but Mathew Strocchia recorded the final out as darkness set in. Daniel Goldberg had 2 doubles and 3 RBIs. Aj devito was unstoppable going 2 for3, 2 walks, and 1 RBI. Daniel Mattei recorded his first hit of the season with a single to left. Michael Castelli helped start a rally in the sixth with a walk and a stolen base. Mathew merolla and Cenzo Montoni both had productive outs that resulted in 1 RBI each. Judging by the cheers in the stands, the Diamondback fans were thoroughly impressed. Lastly, the players seem to have bought into the notion that with hard work, things just start turning your way.

It was an epic battle of the competing orthodontic offices. Leading the offense for the Braves was Kenny Hirschfeld, Joseph Vieni, Matthew Bloom & Ryan Wasserman with 4 hits each. Edward Mauceri, Jimmy Weedon, Eli Goodwin, Alex Schwartz, Matthew Heimowitz & Stephen Lopez had 3 hits each. Duhan Lee had 2 hits and Ben Goodwin contributed with 1 hit. Leading the defensive for the Braves was Ryan, Jimmy, Matthew B & Kenny. Kenny made a spectacular stab at a hot liner and then completed the put out with a long throw from shortstop. On the same play Jimmy made a great stretch at first. Matt H also played a great first base. Duhan made a heads up play on an outfield hit by throwing a strike to second just in time to get the force out. A great all around team effort.

The BOLTS bolted back after losing to Albertson Herricks last week. Lauren Wasserman picked up her second win of the season pitching two shut out innings. Cece Schnall had a put out at home plate and hit a triple to the outfield. Jillian Cooper hit a double up the middle and scored twice. Haylie Lempert had two big hits and scored twice. Daniella Connor had two base hits and also scored twice. Joanna Mauceri had three walks, stole a few bases and scored three runs. Logan Ward got on base twice and scored a run. Katie Belmonte got on base all four times and looked strong in the field. Kaitlyn Stoyer hit the ball hard every time up and got on base once. Paulina continues to hit the ball all over the field, gets on base, steals bases and scored a run. Rachel Schneider is also fleet of foot on the bases with steals and scoring one run. The BOLTS are playing hard and have a lot of fun cheering each other on. Way to go BOLTS.

The Knights of Columbus Council 2852 Storm showed their grit on this cold misty night to even theirseason record to 2 wins and 2 losses. The team combined solid pitching from Jessica Vissichelli, who struck out 4 in 3 innings work and Monica Mattei with solid defense and timely hitting to score 11 runs in this darkness shortened game. The team scored 3 runs in the first inning and got hits from Gina Pepe, Kristen Renta, Emily Hartman and Elizabeth Hessler. In the second inning the team scored another 3 runs on a single by Theresa Mattei, walks by Jessica Weiss and Natalie Patrey with Gina bringing them home with a single. In the third inning, after some solid infield play in the tophalf of the inning, the Storm scored 4 more runs. After Emily singled, Christine Vissichelli hit a 2 run home run. Sister Jessica followed with a single, stole second and came home on Elizabeth’s double. Liz scored as she stole third and home for the fourth and final run of the inning. Emerald Geiger, Cassidy Lange and Brittany Lekulvic showed great patience with walks and timely stolen bases. Clara Goldberger had good at bats before the Storm scored their final run in the fifth and final inning. The Storm is beginning to roll.

The Knights of Columbus Council 2852 Storm were seemingly confused with the first five batters striking out. Initially they found it difficult to catch up with the wind-milling Garden City ace’s fastball. There was a Storm front coming! With two outs in the second, Starting Pitcher Theresa Mattei was hit by a pitch and she stole second. A single by Christine Vissichelli brought her home with the game’s first run. Emerald Geiger walked and stole second on the back end of a double steal with Christine who was brought home by a Natalie Patrey RBI single. The final two runs of the inning were scored when Jessica Vissichelli thundered a fastball to left with a two run triple. On this sunny Spring Saturday afternoon the Storm continued to roll. The third inning was highlighted by walks to Emily Hartman who stole second and third, and Clara Goldberger. Gina Pepe hit a single scoring Emily and Kristen Renta knocked a single, scoring Clara and Gina for a three run third inning. Theresa pitched three innings giving up only one run. With one out in the fourth, Monica Mattei worked a walk and was moved to third by a double by her sister Theresa. Walks to the next two batters gave Natalieanother shot to knock in a run, which she did. Jessica brought the final run of the inning in with a bouncer to short. In the fifth inning, Cassidy Lange walked and stole second, but was cut down at the plate off a hit by Emily with a nicely executed relay by Garden City from right center. Brittany Lekulvic hit a single moving Emily to third, Kristen brought Emilyhome with the twelfth and final run of the Merillon Storm afternoon. Jessica Weiss and Elizabeth Hessler made nice plays in the field and helped to lead the team to their third win of the season. The Storm is now 3 and 2.

Robert J Kerre and Associates Dodgers
It was a windy foggy evening as the Royals took the field against a very tough Dodgers team. Luke Notine made a nice throw to Alfred Squicciarino for the third out in the top of the 1st, and Luke showed some great hustle down to first on a close play in the bottom half of the inning. Dean Caldwell made a nice play on a Pop up in the 2nd, and in the 3rd there were some outstanding plays from Jesse Witt who made two unassisted put outs at first and also was on the receiving end of a throw from Demetris Panouis for the third out of the frame. Scott McClellan played a great Short Stop, and threw to Justin Cosgrove at 3rd for the last out of the 6th. The royals faced a very talented Dodgers defense but did manage to score some runs and the boys had a number of nice hits. Alex Spagnoli took home the game ball thanks to a couple of sharp line drives. Way to go Alex! Gavin Borduas had a couple of hits, and Trevor Yee hit the ball sharply and showed some great hustle on the base paths. Ryan Gonzalez and Joseph Montoni also contributed to a strong effort with key hits and speed on the bases. We missed you Dino, and will see you next game. Good job to all for a good game. Go Royals!

The Stutzman Funeral Home Brewers continued their excellent all around play. William Lentini started and pitched a great inning striking out 2. He also walked doubled stole a base scored a run and drove in a run. Sam Motelson also pitched an inning striking out one. At the plate he was 1 for 1 with a single, two walks 4 stolen bases scored a run and drove in a run. Siv Paturi was 1 for 1 with a single and a walk and drove in a run and made a nice play in centerfield to keep a ball in front of him. Justin Tamara was 1 for 1 with a double, walk, sacrifice, stole two bases scored two runs and drove in three. He also made three excellent throws at catcher and almost threw a runner out trying to steal third base. Matt Rivera drove in the first run of the game with a hard grounder to second, walked scored a run and made a nice catch at third base. Danny McCellan pitched a scoreless 2nd inning striking out the side. He also walked, singled and drove in two runs. Virag Shah had a great day at the plate hitting a triple to drive in two runs. Frankie Stigliano made a nice play at third fielding a hard grounder and also walked and scored a run Ibrihim Khwaja made his pitching debut and threw several strikes. He also walked and scored a run in the big four run fourtgh inning Adrian Balkcom came in to pitch the third inning with the bases loaded and no outs and proceeded to strike out the side. He was also 2 for 3 at the plate with a double, single two runs scored and 2 rbis.The boys continue to improve each and very game.

The Pirates defense was lead by great pitching by Max Dienes (3 innings) and Dharyl Moon (1 inning). There were a couple of great defensive plays by Vittorio DeStefano along with strong defense by Matthew Shen and Jeremy Feng. The Pirates offense was led by Patrick Devine who hit a triple which scored 3 RBI’s; Nicholas Reda who sit a single and earned an RBI and Sasha Gentile who earned an RBI. Also as a result of getting on base from walks, the following players each scored a run – Sean O’Leary, Michael Kurre, Max Dienes and Scott Goodman.

The Pirates offense was led by lots of singles hit by several players including Patrick Devine who hit 2 singles and got an RBI, Nicholas Reda who hit two singles, Max Dienes who hit a single and an RBI, Michael Kurre who hit the winning RBI and singles by Sean O’Leary, Philip Chang and Dharyl Moon.

Matthew Bloom, Kenny Hirschfeld & Jimmy Weedon had with 3 hits each. Leading the defensive for the Braves was Jaden, Ryan, Jimmy, Matthew H & Kenny. Stephen & Jaden made great throws from theoutfield to cut off potential doubles. Edward made a heads up play on a hot grounder and got the put out at first. A great all around team effort.

May 1st – Long game today but both teams played very well. The Dodgers had 4 players go a perfect 3-3, Matt Rubinic, Daniel Simmons, Stephen Bracco and Justin Rosen. Stephen was the only player to have 2 RBI’s and even had his first double of the season. Ralph Bonelli was our only player to score 2 runs in the game. Everybody contributed today throughout the lineup. Luke Gruosso had a key hit in the 2nd inning with the bases loaded to keep the inning alive. Nice job guys.

Hand Rolled Bagels Reds started off strong in the first inning, putting up three quick runs with solid hitting from Dylan Kareff and Eric Del Valle who both drove in runs. We had solid pitching from all three pitchers, and two scoreless innings from Elliot Weissman who fanned four batters. Elliot also made a diving catch at first as a slid by the home team dugout. Defense was the name of the game with a great play by Anthony DePompeis who nabbed a hard grounder at first for the putout, while Eric Del Valle was unstoppable at short making a very tough play with a ball hit up the middle, and throwing a gun across the diamond the nab the runner. Mike Rose pitched impressively again, and despite giving up a couple of runs in the first, threw bullets the rest of the way. Matthew Baronci and Raymond Gresalfi logged good, steady innings behind the plate, and we had a formidable outfield led by Darren Yang, Richard Song and Nick Femia. While the team came up one short in the bottom of the seventh, it was one of the best outings of the year.

Hand Rolled Bagels 7
In an epic battle, the Rays defeated the rockin’ Reds 8-7 in 7 tough innings. After trading leads a few times during the game, the Rays trailed 7-5 going into the bottom on the 6th inning. With one out, Jack Tucker (2 for 3 with an RBI on the day) got the rally started by beating out an infield hit, then stole 2nd base. After a hard battle, Matthew Solomon was able to come through with a run-scoring double to bring the Rays within one run. Matthew then alertly stole both 3rd and home to tie the game. The game then moved into an extra inning, where it became even more thrilling. In the top of the 7th, the Reds loaded the bases with no one out, only to be denied the go-ahead run thanks to the clutch pitching of Brian Volk, who proceeded to retire the next three batters with a strike out, pop out (excellent play by 3rd baseman Sean O’Connor) and another strike out. The Rays then scored the walk-off run in the bottom of the 7th inning thanks to a one-out base hit by Joey Jacobs (who then stole 2nd and 3rd to get the winning run close to home) and a huge 2-out single up the middle by Brian Volk (capping off his 4 for 4 afternoon, with a triple and 3 singles). The Rays would not have been in position to rally and win the game had it not been to the strong pitching in the 1st 6 innings of Sean O’Connor, Sean McClellan and Joey Jacobs. Defensively the Rays were once again solid, led by Tyler Dauble (2 big innings behind the plate), Joe Sullivan, Angelo Ferrigno and Evan Chaleff.

Despite mounting an early five run lead in the bottom of the 1st inning, it turned into a hard-fought and exciting comeback win for the mighty Giants as they displayed strong pitching, timely hitting and speed around the base path against a determined Reds team at the Merillon Complex this evening. Starting pitcher John Napolitano had another strong outing with 7 strikeouts over 3 innings while holding the opposition to only 3 runs and also continued to swing a hot bat with 3 singles while stealing 3 bases and scoring 2 runs. GregoryAndreopoulos not only came in to relieve in the top of the 4th inning with a gritty 3 strike-out performance, he was one of the Giants’ offensive stars with a triple, 2 singles, 2 stolen bases (including one of home), 2 RBIs and a run scored. What’s more, his hard hit grounder to second base in the bottom of the 6th inning drove in the winning run. Max Silverstein earned his second win of the season with one strikeout over the final 2 innings and displayed spectacular athleticism with a diving catch of a pop-up to the left side of the mound in the top of the 5th inning to keep the game knotted at 5. Max was the Giants’ other offensive star with 2 doubles, 2 stolen bases, 2 RBIs and a run scored. Also contributing offensively was Christopher Valentine and Fernando Robayo, each with a single, a stolen base and a run scored. Christopher continues to excel as a top-tiered defensive shortstop while Fernando roams the outfieldwith the utmost of confidence. Brian Korpacz and Dawson Tankersley also combined for 2 singles and 2 stolen bases. Patrick McTiernan continues to hone his craft behind the plate at catcher as does Harman Takhar who once again caught the final inning of the game. Scott Schanter, Jesse Romano, Alex Garabedian and Matthew Notine each flashed the leather in the field. Go Giants!

Despite climbing to a three run lead early in a game shortened due to darkness, the mighty Giants played to a hard fought tie as they once again displayed strong pitching against an impressive Blue Jays team at the Merillon Complex this evening. Starting pitcher Max Silverstein had another strong outing on the hill with 6 strikeouts over 3 innings while contributing offensively with a single, 2 RBIs and a run scored. John Napolitano turned in a solid inning of relief with 3 strikeouts of his own and came around to score two runs off of 2 walks and 2 stolen bases. Also contributing offensively for the Giants were Christopher Valentine with a double, a stolen base and a run scored, Gregory Andreopoulos with a single and an RBI and Scott Schanter with a single, a stolen base and an RBI. Matthew Notine broke out with his first hit of the season in the top of the 4th inning as part of a potential game-winning rally that just fell short. Patrick McTiernan once again excelled behind the plate at catcher and also contributed to the bottom line by driving in a run on a hard hit ball back to the pitcher in the top of the 1st inning. Patrick also came around to score another run in the top of the 3rd inning after being hit by a pitch. Harman Takhar, Brian Korpacz, Alex Garabedian and Dawson Tankersley each flashed the leather in the field. Go Giants!
