On Monday, May 9, led by Daler ace Alex Brosnan, the Dalers beat Massapequa 2-0. Backed by a strong pitching performance from Brosnan who gave up only two hits while striking out 13, the Dalers scored four runs in the fifth after consecutive hits by Matt Oppedisano and Richie Sullivan. With one out Nick Colasurdo and Rocky Santopadre also followed with back to back hits to plate two runs which was enough run support for Brosnan to throw a complete game.
Game Two brought the Dalers over to their cross-town rivals Chiefs’ field. After jumping out to a 2-0 lead after one inning, Dalers starting pitcher Nick Colasurdo gave it right back in a four-run second inning for the high powered Massapequa offense.
After the two teams traded zeroes for the next five innings, the Dalers put a three spot up in the top of the 7th inning, which was culminated by a two-run triple by Ian Kornfeld. Sophomore Anthony Galanoudis come on in relief and threw four innings, which earned him his first varsity victory, a 5-4 win.
After a Wednesday night game at Farmingdale State was postponed due to inclement weather, the two teams battled again on Thursday at Farmingdale High School in front of a packed housed. Senior Chris Vitale toed the rubber for game three and not to be outdone by his senior pitching mate Brosnan, Vitale took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before a leadoff single erased his no-no.
Pequa did scored an unearned run in the fifth but not before Junior Nick Colasurdo belted a three-run homer in the third to give Vitale some breathing room. After eight strikeouts, three walks and only two hits by Vitale, the Dalers completed the sweep of the Massapequa Chiefs to pull them into a tie with Oceanside.
