Obituary: Gerard Whelan

Gerard “Jim” Whelan, lifelong resident of Oyster Bay, died on April 30, 2011. He owned and operated with the late Frank Grassi the Texaco Oyster Bay Service Station, which was where the Boys and Girls Club is now located. Husband of the late Katherine; they celebrated 70 years of marriage on Dec. 14, 2010, and she passed away on April 6. Father of James (Bonnie), Thomas (Karen) and Cecelia (Bill) Wilkinson. Grandfather of nine; great-grandfather of eight. Arrangements were made by the Francis P. Devine Funeral Home, Oyster Bay. Funeral Mass at the Chapel of St. Dominic’s RC Church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice Care Network, 99 Sunnyside Blvd., Woodbury.
