Hicksville Schools, Library Vote Results

Residents Vote to Pass All Budgets;
Carroll, Garger and Culhane Voted as BOE Trustees

On May 17, residents voted to pass the proposed budget for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year as 1865 voted in favor of the budget and 1036 voted against.

The budget increased $3,006,092 from last year, a 2.63 percent increase, totaling at $117,178,303 (compared to last year’s $114,172,211).

Kevin Carroll defeated Phil Heckler and incumbent Charles Coutieri for the board of education trustee seat number one. Incumbent trustee Delores Garger retained the second seat, running unopposed. Steven Culhane, incumbent, defeated David Jao for the third trustee seat.

The community also voted in favor of Proposition 2, which continues the services of the Hicksville Gregory Museum for the schools and residents.

The Hicksville Public Library’s 2011-2012 budget passed with a final count of 1849 (yes) to 994 (no). Janet Bergholtz was elected to the Hicksville Public Library Board of Trustees.

“The passage of the annual budget will enable us to grow and continue to serve our community by providing diverse resources, services and programs to the public. We thank the community for its continued support,” said a spokesperson for the library.
