What a back and forth battle between the BOLTS and BIG BLUE from Garden City. The winning runs were scored off a grand slam home run hit by Logan Ward. The hit parade continued with Jillian Cooper, Lauren Wasserman and Logan Ward getting big hits and reaching base all three times and scored all three times. Daniella Connor got one hit and scored a run. Paulina Valentine continues to leads the team in stolen bases and scored two runs. Cece Schnall did another great job behind the plate and with her bat, getting on base twice and scoring a run. Kaitlyn Stoyer and Haylie Lempert contributed by reaching base all three times and each scoring a run. Gabbie Reniere was hit by a pitch and scored a big run for the team. Joanna Mauceri continues her great plays in the field and great speed on the bases. Rachel Schneider reached base once and made a good play in the field to help in the win against Garden City. Way to Go BOLTS.

May 13th – Good game on Friday night against a very tough Padres team. The Dodgers started off slow but picked up speed by the middle innings. The defense had two consecutive no-run inningswith nice catches by Stephen Bracco, Joseph Mattei and Nicholas Ungania. The offense did their share with a perfect 3-3 from Thomas Rubinic, Matt Rubinic and Vincent Pepe. William Vasilakos, Justin Rosen and Nicholas Ungania also added 3 hits each. Team leading 3 RBI’s from Ralph Bonelli was much appreciated. Nice game boys.

New Hyde Park Funeral Home Blue Jays (6)
The Reds rolled out strong again in their latest game, scoring 6 runs in the first inning. Michael Mellone stroked an RBI double, Matthew Baronci drove in a run with a single, Dylan Kareff drove in a run with a sharply hit ball and Anthony DePompeis stole home with aggressive base-running. The offensive fireworks concluded with a two-out bases loaded double by MichaelRose, who then proceeded to strike out the side in the top of the second. Defensively, Matthew Baronci made a fine play on a fly ball, and the infield recorded several outs on ground balls. Although the Reds could not push home the wininng run in the bottom of the last, the team showed that it is rounding into form heading into the playoffs. Go Reds!

In what proved to be ahard fought baseball game whose outcome literally came down to the final play, the mighty Giants earned their fifth victory of the season behind strong pitching and solid defense against a determined Pirates team at the Merillon Complex this evening. Making his first start of the season, Gregory Andreopoulos turned in an impressive outing giving up only 3 runs over 3 innings with 3 strikeouts to earn his first victory of the season. Gregory also contributed offensively with a double, an RBI and a run scored. John Napolitano took the hill in relief in the bottom of the 4th inning and held the opposition scoreless over 2 innings with 3 strikeouts while Max Silverstein came in to pitch the final inning of the game throwing 2 strikeouts of his own The offensive star of the game for the Giants was Harman Takhar with a single, 2 stolen bases (including one of home) and a run scored. Harman also contributed defensively by cleanly fielding a hard hit ground ball to 3rd base and then quickly turned around to nail the runner trying to advance from 2nd base to end the top of the 3rd inning. Also contributing offensively was Christopher Valentine with a double and a run scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 3rdinning and Fernando Robayo with a single, an RBI and a run scored Patrick McTiernan was once again solid behind the plate at catcher and broke out with his first base hit of the season in the bottom of the 4th inning. Scott Schanter stole his second base of the season after reaching base on an error in the bottom of the 1st inning while on defense continues to hone his craft as an up-and-coming 2nd baseman. Jesse Romano also displayed solid defensive skills at 2nd base in the top of the 5th inning as he instinctively covered 1st base on a hard hit ground ball to the 1st baseman to get the out. Brian Korpacz, who also stole his second base of the season, andMatthew Notine each flashed the leather in the field. Go Giants!

Ibrihim Khwaja played shortstop and made three nice plays and walked and scored a run. Aaron Lesser walked and scored a run and make three nice plays at second base and shortstop. Frankie Stigliano walked twice stole 5 bases andmake a nice play at third base throwing out a runner at home. Sam Motelson was excellent at catcher making some nice throws on steal attempts and tagged out a runner trying to score. Jared Puntus pitched a scoreless inning and walked scoring a run and hit a fielder’s choice driving in a run. Matt Rivera walked twice and scored a run and made some nice plays at first base scooping balls out of the dirt. Danny McClellan pitched one inning striking out two and walked and scored a run and made a nice play at second base to force a runner. Virag Shah singled driving in two runs and scored a run. Adrian Balkcom pitched a scoreless inning walked scored a run and stole two bases. Justin Tamara walked and scored a run and pitched an inning. William Lentini walked twice scored a run, made a nice play at first base to force a runner and pitched an inning.

The baseball Gods were with us as the rain stopped prior to game time. Despite the humidity playing a role in ball control on the mound, the starting pitching comprised of Abidin Dauti, Daniel Goldberg, and Christopher Bruccoleri, performed very well. Vincenzo Montoni who has become a specialist in the middle relief role, shut the Brewers down and maintained the lead. Mathew Merolla came in throwing heat and recorded his first save of the year. The offense was powered by Daniel Mattei (1 RBI), Daniel Goldberg (1 RBI), Brendan Slattery (1 RBI), Michael Castelli (1 RBI), Mathew Strocchia (1 RBI), Nick Nevkulic (2RBIs), Daniel Son (1 RBI), and AJ Devito who blasted a bases loaded triple bringing in 3 runs.The Dbacks continue to impress their fans and are looking forward to their next game.

The Applebees Dodgers played a wonderful three inning game this past Saturday morning and showed everybody how much their baseball skills are improving. Aedan Smith, Alan Sikora , and Zachary Stoyer slugged a few line drives for singles. Young Ryan Lau made solid contact at the plate with some good swings of the bat. Aedan Cotter also hit a few hard grounders showing that his practices have been paying off. On the diamond, Sanay Shah fielded a few hard hit balls and played first basewith a golden glove. Lance Yetikyel, Justin Hazlewood and Aidan Multani fielded the ball and threw to first with pinpoint accuracy. Bobby Teetzs circled the bases with great speed scoring twice. The Dodgers enjoyed their game today after so many rainy days kept them off of the baseball field.

Piccolo Gourmet Rangers
The Diamondbacks and Rangers met for a third time and provided great excitement for all of the fans. The game was even more entertaining as if I may quote a previous writer, “ a colorful umpire provided entertainment and advice throughout the game”. The score of the game ultimately did not matter as both teams played with heart and courage. I applaud all my players for their enthusiasm and love of the game. Thank you to Cenzo Montoni, Mathew Merolla, AJ Devito, Abidin Dauti, Christopher Bruccoleri, Daniel Mattei, Mathew Castelli, Nickolaus Levkolic, Daniel Son, Daniel Goldberg, Brendan Slattery and Mathew Strocchia for playing so hard. One of the examples of their courage was displayed to me as one of my players in a tense part of the game, going up against a “ flame thrower”, walked. As he reached first base and I patted him on his chest, I could feel his heart was beating rapidly. Therefore, I have realized that it is not about wins and losses, but rather about having the kids learn the game, and at the end of the game, wanting to play more. I know the other coaches and I, have achieved that goal with this team. Good luck to all in the playoffs.

Another sunless day for baseball in NHP. But the boys made thebest of it and ignored the bad weather. The offense MVP for the Braves was Matthew Heimowitz with 5 hits including a monster double. Alex Schwartz also had 5 hits and 5 runs scored. Matthew Bloom & Duhan Lee had 4 hits each. Jimmy Weedon & Edward Mauceri had 3 hits each. Ryan Wasserman contributed with 2 hits. Leading the defensive for the Braves was Ryan, Matthew B, Alex Matthew H, Jimmy & Duhan. Jimmy came out from behind the plate like a cat and made a great throw to first to get the put out. Matthew B made some nice plays on the pitchers mound. Matt H fielded a grounder at third and made a perfect flip to Ryan who did a great job covering third to get another put out. Duhan grabbed a hot grounder and made the put out at first. A great all around team effort and both teams showed excellent sportsmanship.

Cellini Lodge Diamondbacks
Dietz Dairy field was the sight of the game between the Phillies and the Mighty Diamondbacks. Hitting stars for the Phillies were Chris Carbone, who was 2 for 3 with a double, Matthew Schultz with a big RBI, and John Tagios who was 2 for 3 with his first career Home Run. Great pitching was displayed again by Matthew Schultz and John Tagios who time and time again recorded the tough outs. The closer for the Phillies in this game was Kenny Gensch who pitched superbly. Fielding stars for the Phillies were Franco Dimilta and Marc Baronci who played excellent defense, giving the Philly pitchers sighs of relief. According to Coach John the play of the game was when a Diamondback player hit a shot over the head of outfielder Shayne Simoncini who picked up the ball and fired a strike to Matthew Schultz in the infield, who in turn threw it to catcher John Tagios who applied the tag on the runner who was trying to score. Great overall team play by the Phillies.

It was another exciting game for the mighty Giants who displayed strong pitching, solid fielding and an offensive surge to secure their sixth victory of the season against a determined Reds team at the Merillon Complex this evening. Starter Max Silverstein earned his fourth win of the season with a dominant 5 strikeout performance over 2 innings and was also one of the Giants’ offensive stars of the game with a single, triple, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Making his first appearance of the season, Christopher Valentine took the mound in the bottom of the 3rd inning and turned in an impressive performance with 3 strikeouts of his own while also contributing offensively with an RBI and a run scored Gregory Andreopoulos came in to relieve in the bottom of the 4th inning and not only proceeded to strike out 4 batters over 2 innings, he was the Giants’ other offensive star of the game with 2 singles, 2 stolen bases, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. John Napolitano came in to pitch the final inning of the game throwing 2 strikeouts of his own and also added to the bottom line with a double, a stolen base, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Also contributing offensively was Fernando Robayo with a single, an RBI and a run scored, Scott Schanter with a single, 2 stolen bases and 2 RBIs, HarmanTakhar with a single and an RBI and Matthew Notine with a single, 2 stolen bases and a run scored. Patrick McTiernan not only contributed offensively with a single, an RBI and a run scored, he was once again solid behind the plate at catcher throwing out a runner trying to advance from 2nd base to 3rd base in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Jesse Romano was on the receiving end of the throw from Patrick and applied a great tag to nail the runner. Alex Garabedian, Brian Korpacz and Dawson Tankersley combined for 3 walks, 3 stolen bases and 3 runs scored while each flashed the leather in the field. Go Giants!

The Phillies played another excellent game displaying outstanding pitching, fielding, and hitting. Shayne Simoncini was this games starting pitcher and he got the Phillies off to a smooth beginning. Marc Baronci and Ian Myer continued in a dominant fashion. There were great defensive plays that helped the Phillies pitching, made by Zachary Timmins at second, Ryan Simmons in the outfield, and Ian Meyer who completed an unassisted double play. Offensively, Kevin Langan (3 walks and 3 runs) Frankie Sannuti (2 walks and 2 runs), John Tagios who was 3 for 3, an Chris Carbone (double) provided run support for the Philly pitchers. Matthew Reda had some big at bats and drove home a big run in the third inning. Kenny Gensch tripled and Shayne Simoncini hit his first career Home Run in the fifth inning. Coach John is proud of how the Phillies have progressed in all facets of the game. With hard work and effort the Phillies are playing great ball. Keep it up and Let’s Go Phillies!!!

Sunday May 22, 2011 – The Royals played a great game today lead by the strong defense and quick bat of Luke Notine who took home the game ball thanks to some great hitting and a double play in the field 4th inning. Alfred Squicciarino also got a game ball thanks to 4 hits and 2 runs scored. Also at the plate, Justin Cosgrove contributed 3 hits, as did Dean Caldwell and Trevor Yee. Gavin Borduas, Demetris Panouis, Jesse Witt and Ryan Gonzalez all had 4 hits and scored 9 runs combined. Also giving a great effort was Scott McClellan who had a hit and scored a run. Great job today Royals!

Mariners (8)
Despite a valiant effort, the Rays came up a run short on Sunday, losing 8-7 versus the marvelous Mariners. The Rays were stymied by the Mariners pitchers over the first 3 innings, and trailed 4-0 heading into the bottom of the 4th inning. The Rays began to chip away at the lead in the 4th inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Brian Volk, who then stole 2nd and 3rd and scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Sean McClellan. Trailing 5-2 in the bottom of the 5th inning, the Rays once again refused to go down quietly. The Rays 5th inning rally started with 2 outs and no one on. Excellent at bats were turned in by Joe Sullivan, Jake Dieber and Evan Chaleff, who all battled and worked out walks to load the bases. Charlie Goodwin then delivered a clutch 2-run double to knock in the runs to bring the Rays within a run at 5-4. The Mariners scored 3 in the top of the 6th inning to take what looked like an insurmountable 8-4 lead as the Rays took their last licks in the bottom of the 6th inning. However, as they have done throughout the season, the Rays showed their fighting spirit to make it a close game. Brian Volk led off the inning with a walk, moved to 2nd on a fielder’s choice and stole 3rd base. Sean O’Connor and Jack Tucker showed great plate discipline by working out walks to load the bases. After a strikeout, Brian immediately channeled his inner Jackie Robinson and dashed towards home. The throw to try and get him was a little wide, and Sean O’Connor showed tremendous instincts by following Brian home for a double steal of home to get the Rays within 8-6. Matthew Solomon then delivered a huge 2-strike, 2-out single scoring Jack Tucker, making the score 8-7. Matthew was able to steal his way to 3rd base, but unfortunately was stranded there as the final out was made. The Rays got some very good pitching, led by Joey Jacobs (making his return from the 15-day DL), Charlie Goodwin and Sean McClellan. Were it not for a few tough bounces they would have fared much better in the scorebook. Butthat’s baseball. Defensively, the Rays turned two double-plays, one by the combination of Sean O’Connor (great grab in left center) and Brian Volk (doubling up the runner at 2nd base), and the other an unassisted double-play turned in by Joey Jacobs, who stabbed a liner at 1stbase and stepped on the base to complete the double play. Other defensive stalwarts included Angelo Ferrigno and Jake Dieber, who were solid all game long.

Newman’s Orthodontics Braves
The Nationals made a great showing at Manor Oaks today. In spite of clouds and sprinkles the gloves were shining and the bats were glowing.
Michael Frising was in the lead-off spot and filled those shoes quickly by going five for six and scoring three of the Nationals’ 14 runs. Jonathan Grenard had two put-outs while playing first base to keep the Braves off the board in the first.
Daniel Reilly crunched the ball every time up and made the game’s first put-out while at the pitcher’s mound in the first.
Cooper Alwadish remains hot going four for four today and pounding the ball up through the middle. Look out pitcher!
Jon Zebitch continues to sparkle on the field making a heads-up put-out at second base on a throw from centerfield by James Prado who was on base five times today. Aidan Chun had two runs-batted-in making great improvements at bat while contributing to the Nationals’ big scoring.
Erik Lyngstad-Hughes made 4 unassisted put-outs while playing centerfield and catcher keeping the game close down the stretch.
Jack Knupfer was on base almost every time up and made a beautiful throw to get the runner at first during the third inning while he was playing at the pitcher’s mound.
