Annual New Hyde Park Memorial Day Parade

The American Legion and the VFW will hold the Annual New Hyde Park Memorial Day Parade on May 28. Marchers will assemble on Hillside Boulevard.  Go east on Jericho Turnpike.  Stop for a brief ceremony at New Hyde Park Village Hall, corner of New Hyde Park Road and Jericho Turnpike.  Then proceed north on New Hyde Park Road to Lincoln Boulevard and to New Hyde Park Memorial Park where wreaths will be laid, A brief address by the New Hyde Park Village Mayor Daniel Patricio will be delivered and then the parade will be dismissed.

Annual Town of North Hempstead Fireworks Show at Beach

At the Town of North Hempstead Beach Park West Shore Road, Port Washington, the Town of North Hempstead will hold its Annual Fabulous Fire Works Show. Beach opens at 3 p.m.  Program begins at 6:30 p.m., parking fee is $5 per car, Fireworks at darkness.  Live entertainment featuring two great bands, Henry Haid with a tribute to Billy Joel and Early Elton a tribute to the early music of Elton John.  Further, The Town of North Hempstead will hold a Memorial Day Service from 6:30 to 7 p.m. to honor all members of the American armed forces who died in service to protect our nation.


Monday, May 30

Williston Park Memorial Day Parade

The Village of Williston Park Memorial Day Parade, sponsored by the American Legion, will start off with its ceremony at 9 a.m. at the American Legion Hall on Willis Avenue.  After the ceremony the parade will form and start at 9:30 a.m. and go down Syracuse to Broad Street and from Broad Street right to Hillside Avenue.  It will then travel west on Hillside, north to Park Avenue, east on Center Street and south on Willis Avenue and proceed to Williston Park Village Hall, 494 Willis Avenue, where they will hold a brief ceremony.  After that ceremony, the parade will then proceed to the Williston Park Fire House, just south of Hillside Avenue, for a brief ceremony to honor those firemen who died during the past year.

Mineola Memorial Day Parade

The Irish American Society will take part in the Memorial Day Parade.  Lineup at 10:30 a.m. and parade steps off at 11 a.m.

New Hyde Park Memorial to Hold Senior Awards Night

New Hyde Park Memorial High School will hold its Annual Senior Awards night at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the school, 500 Leonard Boulevard, New Hyde Park.

Herricks School Board Meeting at Center Street School

The Herricks School Board will hold its regular meeting at the Center Street School, on Center Street at 7:15 p.m. At that time there will be the recognition of retirees and student representatives, who have been on the board all year.

Herricks Annual Carnival at Herricks Community Center

The Herricks Annual Carnival, held on the grounds of the Herricks Community Center, 999 Herricks Road, New Hyde Park will be held from June 2 through June 5.  The hours of the carnival are:  Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.; Friday from 6 to 10 p.m., Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from noon until 8 p.m.   Included will be games, kiddie rides, live music, adult rides.  Discounted advance sales include:  $20 for vouchers for One-day bracelets at the Community Center Main office beginning now through June 2.  Major credit cards are accepted.  One-day bracelets $30 at Carnival.

Miss Irish American Society Pageant at Irish American Society

Back by popular demand, the Irish American, 297 Willis Avenue, Mineola, will present, as its monthly dance, the Miss Irish American Society Pageant to start at 8 p.m. featuring music by Gerard Corbett and Susan Gillespie. Contestant requirements are 18 to 25-years-old, Irish or Irish descent. There is a $25 entry fee.  First place winner will receive $300 and runner up $100.  Contestant will be judged on: Evening gown, Talent and Interview. The Mistress of Ceremonies is Kitty Kelly.   

Williston Park Picnic at Belmont Racetrack

At Belmont Racetrack come and picnic with Williston Park friends and neighbors.  Bring your own cooler lunch (no glass bottles allowed) and the Williston Park Recreation Committee will provide the dessert…the horses will provide the excitement.  Starting at noon at Belmont, enter through Gate 3, off Hempstead Turnpike.  $12 for adults (13 and over); $10 (Children 3-12). Tzu Chi Long Island Office to Hold Blood Drive

Tzu Chi Long Island Office is hosting a Blood Drive. Each blood donation can save as many as three lives. All donors must be 17 – 75 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, are not HIV positive, have never been infected with hepatitis B or C, have not donated blood within the past 2 months, and be in good health. Donors should remember to bring a valid ID (picture and signature) and donor card, if they have one, eat a good meal before they come (nutritious, not fatty), and drink plenty of fluids (juice and water). Friends of Hillside Library to Hold Annual Meeting

Friends of Hillside Public Library will be holding their annual meeting on at 7 p.m. in the All Purpose Room of the Hillside Public Library 155 Lakeville Road, New Hyde Park.  Come and join us for an informative meeting outlining purchases for the Hillside Public Library and dates and programs for fundraising for 2011-2012.  All are welcome – coffee and cake will be served.

Benefit for Robin Sue Ward School to Feature Herricks Talent

The show is at 8 p.m. The school is located one block north of the Long Island Expressway on 188th Street (very easy to find). Tickets are $20 and you can get them by calling the school at 718-357-4650. This year’s performers are: Tom Gamblin, Robert Gino, Steve Grossman, Kathleen Gubitosi, John Hayes, Michelle Mazza, Barbara Murphy, Scott Postel, Maura Ryan, Warren Schein and Rachel Zampino.

Greatest Love Songs Ever Written
