Undefeated in League Play for the First Time in the History of OBHS Athletics
On a beautiful afternoon in May 2011, Chris Kelly took the mound going for a sweep of the “Rocks” of East Rockaway in the second game of the Nassau County Class B Baseball Championship played at Hofstra University.
The Baymen were feeling confident as just the day before, on Monday, May 23, Joe Siringo pitched a 21-6 victory over East Rockaway for the Baymen. Rob Morgan was named “Player of the Game” in Monday’s game. Tuesday’s “Player of the Game’ was Chris Kelly who pitched a complete game and led the Baymen to a 13-3 victory and a clean sweep to the County Championship.
In fact the entire season was a clean sweep for the Baymen. The team was undefeated in league play for the first time in the history of Oyster Bay High School athletics. The Baymen will take a 21-game winning streak into their next game which will be played on Tuesday, May 31st back at Hofstra University. The Baymen will face Class C Champions Friends Academy in a unification Championship game.
Coach Jay Davis was, once again, selected as Coach of the Year. Mr. Davis is quick to point out that his coaching success is due in large part by the dedication and expertise of Assistant Coach Scott Lineman, who has been at his side throughout this entire historic run.
The Long Island Championship game will be played at Farmingdale University on Sunday, June 5 against the yet to be determined Suffolk County Champions.
