A day at the beach ensures fun and games: relaxation and down time to soak up the sunrays. But at Brighton Beach Thursday, it turned deadly.
A 16-year-old girl was killed and four others were injured from gunshots on the busy Brooklyn boardwalk. Witnesses and police believe that the shooting was between two clashing gangs.
Two gunmen opened fire around 5:20 p.m. according to police.
Tysha Jones, 16, was pronounced dead after she was struck by a bullet.. She was shot right under the left armpit and died at Coney Island Hospital.
All Headline News, reported that Tykwan Beckett, 23, and two other males in their mid-20s were taken to the hospital and are all expected to survive.
All the victims had been sitting on the same bench.
Police have two men in custody this morning and they are being questioned to their connection to the shooting.
Brighton Beach is considered one of New York City’s most popular beaches. It’s just east of Coney Island and helps NYC commuters escape the summer heat. Temperatures on Thursday reached 95 degrees and Thursday was also Brooklyn-Queens Day, a popular student holiday where students rush to the local beaches.
