A Florida church pastor was found dead in a Times Square hotel room.
According to the NY Daily News, Reverend Zachery Tims, 42, was found dead in his hotel room in Times Square– Police speculate that a drug overdose could be the cause of death.
Tims was found dead in the W Hotel located on Broadway in Times Square. Although initial autopsy tests came back inconclusive, more tests are currently being conducted to determine cause of death.
Reportedly, a small envelope containing white powder was found in the pastor’s pocket. Drug tests are being conducted to determine what the substance is.
Police believe their was no foul play and saw no signs of trauma. However they are checking to see where Tims had traveled during his NY visit and whom he has conversed with on the phone.
According to Huffington Post, there was strong indication that Tims was alone during his death. The dead bolt was locked on the hotel room door, and none of his personal belongings were missing. Hotel staff broke down the door on Friday after Tims missed his Thursday checkout.
Tims was the senior pastor of New Destiny Christian Center in Apopka. Tims, alongside his wife Riva, founded the church in Orlando in 1996. The church currently has 8,000 members.
Tims and wife, Riva, divorced in 2009 after Tims admitted to having an affair with a stripper.
A prayer service was held at the New Destiny Christian Center on Monday, drawing nearly 2,000 people.
