Lillian Anderson was born on Sept. 10, 1911 (9/10/11) and this year marks her 100th birthday – quite a milestone!
Anderson was born in Brooklyn to Norwegian immigrants and was one of six children, all of whom have passed on. When she was 10, her family moved to Hicksville, where she still resides to this day.
Her husband, Francis “Andy” Anderson (deceased 1988), served as Nassau County Clerk in the 1960s and later was a vice president for Franklin National Bank and EAB. Lil was a secretary at Women’s Wear Daily in New York City before starting her family in 1941.
After raising three children (John, Bill and Joyce), she returned to school and was an executive secretary for the Town of Oyster Bay Parks Department from 1965-1975.
After her retirement, Lil remained active in various endeavors. She took up both bowling and golf at 70 and played both until she turned 96. She volunteered at many professional golf tournaments and in 2002, at age 90, she was the oldest volunteer at the U.S. Open at Bethpage!
Her hobbies include baking, embroidery and travel. Lil has always excelled at math and completed her own income tax return without assistance until she was 99. She continues to enjoy weekly card games with her friends and is an inspiration to all who know her.
Lil, still healthy, alert and engaged in life, still lives in the same house she and Andy built in 1939. Lil will celebrate her birthday party at LaMarmite in Williston Park where she’ll be surrounded by her loving friends and family, including her seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
