Driver allegedly drove northbound in southbound lanes on 106/107
The Second Squad reported the arrest of a Hempstead man on Monday, Aug. 29 at 1 a.m. in Oyster Bay.
According to detectives, a Second Precinct police officer observed the defendant, Brandon Pasker, 21, operating a 2010 Chevy Equinox northbound in the southbound lanes of Rte 106/107 in Hicksville. The police officer attempted to stop the vehicle when the defendant’s vehicle struck a 2001 Acura in the vicinity of North Broadway and Jericho Turnpike Jericho, said detectives. The defendant exited his vehicle and aggressively approached the officer while disobeying his commands, police explained.
A violent physical altercation ensued and the defendant attempted to gain control of the police vehicle and the altercation continued as an additional Second Precinct officer arrived, police said. Both officers struggled with the defendant; however, he was able to flee the scene in a marked police vehicle northbound on Route 106, detectives said.
The vehicle was then observed by two responding Second Precinct officers as well as a Muttontown police officer who then pursued the vehicle to Teddy Roosevelt Park on Bay Avenue in Oyster Bay, police noted. The officers were able to stop the vehicle and as they approached, it reversed at a high rate of speed, cops said. The defendant then placed the vehicle into drive and attempted to run down the officers, who were forced to discharge their weapons, detectives explained.
The vehicle continued but eventually came to a stop and the defendant was placed into custody, said police. Three police officers were removed to a local hospital, treated and released, while two people in the Acura were removed to a local hospital for minor injuries, police said. The defendant was also removed to a local hospital where he was admitted with non-life threatening gunshot wounds, police noted.
Charges are pending and Pasker will be arraigned as soon as practical, said detectives.
