Editorial: Karen DeVine-Taglia Needs Support in Her Run in the New York City Marathon

Karen DeVine-Taglia is seeking the community’s help as she takes on the NYC Marathon. She said in a letter to friends and supporters, “Ten years ago after my daughter Francesca was born I began running to fit back into my suits! Well 10 years later I am an addict! I have completed four full marathons (26.2 miles each), seven half-marathons and countless 10 ks and 5 ks.

“Last year I ran the New York City Marathon. And wow what an incredible experience. I had so much fun; I decided I must do it again! I have decided again this year to run for a charity, after looking through the many charities you can run for I carefully chose Fred’s Team.

“Here is a quote about Fred’s team, ‘Fred’s Team is a fundraising program with a lifesaving mission: to bring us one step closer to a world without cancer. Each year, hundreds of athletes of all abilities join Fred’s Team to compete in marathons, half-marathons, triathlons, bike races, and other endurance events all over the world to raise funds for pioneering research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Forty-two million raised to date since 1995, thousands of Fred’s Team members have experienced the personal reward of training, competing, and raising funds for crucial research that has changed and saved lives.’”

Karen added, “I have pledged to raise $3,500 and set $5,000 as my goal. I hope you will join me and show your support of our efforts by making a donation to this worthy cause.  I have designated that all of the funds I raise go to Aubrey’s Fund for Pediatric Cancer Research. To donate, please go to www.fredsteam.org and enter my name Karen DeVine-Taglia.”

Congratulations to Karen for making a commitment to a great cause. Hopefully you will consider making a donation and becoming a part of Karen’s team.

While purists might say the NYC Marathon is not local, everyone has to agree that cancer knows no bounds. Karen is running for all of us. We hope you will support her in her run!
