Kevin Buonomo Graduates from Marine Officer Candidates School

On Saturday, Aug. 13 Kevin Buonomo, an Island Trees High School graduate (’07) graduated from Marine Officer Candidates School as a 2nd Lieutenant. His path to the Marine Corps was not an easy one. Buonomo had prepared for this achievement for well over a year as he studied at Dowling College.

Throughout his studies, he participated in demanding physical training with support from Marines at 1st Marine Corps District in Garden City. It was in late April 2011 that Buonomo had learned of his acceptance into Marine OCS.

After graduating from Dowling College in May 2011, Summa Cum Laude, and member to multiple honor societies, Buonomo reported to Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia. He spent 10 weeks of intense physical and mental training as a member of Charlie Company, 2nd Platoon. In these 10 weeks, Buonomo learned the responsibilities of leading a platoon of marines. He will now spend in excess of six months at the Basic School, where he will continue to train and learn how to lead his future marines on the battlefield.
