Have an up-close encounter with some spooky animals, find and decorate your perfect pumpkin from the patch, and go on a Halloween adventure walk. Each session will end with Halloween stories around the campfire and prizes for the best costumes. The spookiness increases as the day progresses. Parents must attend with children. Rain or shine. Registration required. $5 members; $8 nonmembers per child; $2 per adult. Session 1: 11 a.m. to noon. Toddler Time – ages 2 to 4 years old. Session 2: 1 to 2:30 p.m. Funny Family Time – mixed ages. Session 3: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Night Time – age 8 and up.

Safe Halloween Party
Are you looking for a safe place to celebrate Halloween this year? The Portledge School senior class is hosting a “Safe Halloween” party from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. in the middle school (Portledge School, 355 Duck Pond Rd., Locust Valley). Admission is $5 per family and is open to children in nursery through fifth grade. You do not have to be a Portledge student to attend. Note, this is not a drop-off event. Children are encouraged to come in costume and there will be a variety of activities including trick-or-treating through Halloween-themed rooms, arts and crafts, and a haunted house. Sweet treats will be available at a bake sale. All proceeds will go to the senior class to help fund the Senior Prom and other exciting spring senior events. Art Walk First Thursday
Art Walk features an international spectrum of contemporary artists. Get some artistic inspiration as you visit local art galleries. Other businesses and sites in town will be displaying artwork. Local restaurants will be exhibiting art and are offering a percentage off on meals, wine tastings and more. Live music entertainment is scheduled. Cafes and restaurants will remain open late for dessert and coffee. The evening will begin with Chase Edwards Gallery, 15 E. Main St. (802-0655) and continues at Atelier Gallery, 9 E. Main St.; Art (that matters), 55 W. Main St. (917-769-9921); The Teaching Studios of Oyster Bay, 115 Audrey Ave. (971-597-2404); and The Artist Club Gallery, 29 Berry Hill Rd. will also be open. Art will also be available for viewing at various downtown merchants, including Canterbury Ales, Jack Halyards and Wild Honey. The Oyster Bay Main Street Association office (17 Audrey Ave.) will also be displaying the works of local artists, with refreshments served. America’s Poets Walk With Walt
The program, which will be held at the birthplace of America’s Good Gray Poet at 246 Old Walt Whitman Rd., Huntington Station, will be hosted by Whitman Birthplace Writer in Residence George Wallace. The program will pair a nationally prominent visiting writer with one of Long Island’s fine regional poets for a program of poetry and conversation. Individual tickets to the series will be on sale in advance, or at the door, for $15 per ticket or $70 for the full series. LI Feng Shui Institute
Alison Hayes, The Rock Girl,, will present a two-day intensive workshop on “Psychic and Intuitive Development Training” which will be part 1 of a three part series. In her two-day (also on Nov. 6) “Psychic Development” workshop, participants will learn how to tap into the power of stone to develop their intuition and awaken and activate their psychic abilities. This work also activates cellular memory, which can connect the participant to past or other lives. The LI Feng Shui Institute is located in Planting Fields Arboretum, State Historic Park.

Portledge School Fall Open House
All are invited to tour the pastoral 60-acre campus, meet students, faculty, and alumni, ask questions, and discover “The Portledge Experience.” Students will share their experiences during an interactive panel discussion. Tours of the campus and buildings will follow and then you will hear from a recent alumnus as well as a parent. Faculty and division heads will be available to answer questions throughout. OB Farmers Market
The market features over 15 vendors and offers goods as varied as homemade pickles to natural pet treats, will celebrate its grand opening. New hours this year are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The market will continue to operate every Friday through Oct. 28. Many vendors from the market’s inaugural year are eagerly returning to harvest the benefits of a bursting downtown. They will be joined by an impressive number of new exciting vendors wanting to be part of the weekly event. The market will now be situated on Audrey Ave., north of the Oyster Bay Bandstand, which will become a pedestrian thoroughfare on market days. The Oyster Bay Main Street Association is organizing and managing this enterprise in conjunction with the Town of Oyster Bay. Call 922-6982.
Locust Valley Garden Club
The Executive Board of the Locust Valley Garden Club invites new members to join. The club meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m. at Bailey Arboretum. Some of the committees take care of local gardens, do garden therapy with residents of Jones Manor, make projects with the children of the Grenville Boys and Girls Club and decorate local libraries at holiday time. Muttontown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship
The Fellowship provides an atmosphere of warmth and comraderie, with talks presented by intelligent enlightening and non-dogmatic speakers who come from the entire spectrum of the Arts, History and Sciences. This is followed by coffee and an informal discussion circle, held in the turn-of-the-18th century farmhouse in a bucolic setting. •Alcoholics Anonymous closed step meeting Sundays at 8 p.m. and open meeting at the same time. On Wednesdays at 8 p.m. there is a beginner’s meeting and a closed discussion meeting.
