Helen Mae Coston, of Oyster Bay, died Jan. 22, 2012. Wife of the late Julius A. Coston. Mother of Margo Coston. Grandmother of Collota, Darnell, Kristi and Helen. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Helen Mae was born in New Orleans, LA, on March 12, 1925, the daughter of the late Joseph and Maggie Williams. Helen attended school in New Orleans and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. In 1944 Helen came to New York City to visit her sister Zenobia Williams and decided to stay. Helen worked in a defense plant manufacturing parts for aircraft and later worked in a factory making ladies handbags.
In 1946 she met Julius A. Coston and they were married on March 16, 1944. They had two children, Margo and Vaughan. In 1973 she came to live in Oyster Bay and worked as a domestic. Helen joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Gilbert Pickett.
Arrangements were made by the Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home, Oyster Bay. Visiting was held at The Mount Olive Baptist Church, Oyster Bay, Jan. 28. A funeral service followed. Interment at Pine Hollow Cemetery.
