Lady Dragon’s Core Four

The middle of their season finds the Girls Varsity Basketball Team at Division Avenue High School in the process of trying to secure a playoff spot. The Lady Dragons have a 3-2 record in Conference A2, with five league games left to play. On Jan. 12 the Dragons lost by six, 66-60 to first place Sewanhaka. Division held a 12-point lead at one point but was unable to handle the Sewanhaka press. The next night the Lady Dragons lost a heartbreaker in overtime to second place Bethpage 63-60. The Blue Dragons secured wins against Lawrence, Hewlett, and Plainedge to finish out the first half of conference play.

The Dragons are in the midst of a rebuilding season and are powered by many talented underclassmen. Among these are four very competitive sophomores, Taylor Calabrese, Laura Stuart, Kristin Aquila, and Trish Mollo. Taylor is the point guard and leads the Blue Dragons in assists. Laura Stuart plays the four spot. Kristin Aquila and Trish Mollo play the two and three positions and are two of the best shooters on the team.

All four sophomores have progressed nicely so far this season and are poised to help lead the Lady Dragons to the Nassau County Playoffs.
