A man was arrested for drunken driving after he crashed into a gas station near his Inwood home early Sunday morning, Nassau County police said.
Jorge Alvarenga, 37, crashed his Ford into barriers protecting gas pumps at a Mobil gas station at the corner of Henry Street and Burnside Avenue, through the store and pinned a 46-year-old male clerk in between the car and the counter at 12:30 a.m., police said.
Two customers in the store at the time were not injured. The clerk was taken to a hospital for his injuries, but his condition is currently unknown. A 51-year-old man in the passenger seat was treated for minor injuries.
Officers found Alvarenga was under the influence of alcohol, police said. He was charged with assault, reckless endangerment, driving while intoxicated, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and traffic violations.
He will be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
