A three car accident left one woman dead and others injured this past weekend.
At around 12:12 p.m. Sunday, three cars were involved in an accident on Sound Avenue, just east of Roanoke Avenue, in Riverhead. According to the Riverhead Police Department, officers discovered a Mercury Sable traveling westbound on Sound Avenue had side swiped a GMC Acadia that was traveling eastbound on the same road. The Mercury Sable then collided head on with a Subaru Outback traveling eastbound on Sound Avenue.
The Mercury Sable driver, 85-year-old Vita Avignone, of Middle Island, didn’t survive the accident and was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the Subaru Outback, Theodore Kucin, 60, of Riverhead, was injured during the accident and was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment. His passenger, Linda Kucin, of Riverhead, was also injured and was airlifted to Stony Brook Hospital for treatment. The were no reported injuries to the GMC Acadia occupants.
The Mercury Sable and Subaru Outback were both impounded for saftey checks while the GMC Acadia had a safety inspection at the scene and was released.
