Monster’s Kids had a very successful day with the 2nd Annual Alumni Woodstick Classic. Lacrosse alumni from Garden City and Manhasset High Schools took part in a charity lacrosse game that was followed by fun and festivities in town and then the 122nd playing of the Woodstick Classic. This new twist on an old tradition raised over $40,000 for the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at Cohen Children’s Medical Center. Monster’s Kids will host the Alumni Woodstick Classic game every year to support CCMC.
Monster’s Kids is a foundation that was started in 2009 by Tim and Lisa Goettelmann to better the lives of sick children.
Tim Goettelmann, aka “The Monster,” played professional lacrosse for the Long Island Lizards for 11 years and recently retired to spend time with his family. The Long Island Lizards Organization and Major League Lacrosse (MLL) donated generously to help get this new foundation up and running. The idea of Monster’s Kids excites Tim because he was able to take two things that he is very passionate about, children and lacrosse, and combine them into a successful charity. He had this to say about it:
“In the few years since Monster’s Kids was created, it has raised much-needed funds for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Child Life program at Cohen Children’s Medical Center. Last year’s Alumni Woodstick Classic raised enough funds to renovate a critical care playroom for the Child Life program at Cohen Children’s Medical Center. This room will be dedicated in memory of Ryan Kohart(#34) Garden City Class of 1994, when it is completed. Thank you to everyone who supported this great cause. Please be sure to mark your calendars and note our next event is Friday, December 7 at Fresh Meadows Country Club.”
