President says July 22 event already booked 70-plus vendors
Now celebrating its 10th year in Hicksville, the Street Fair has become an annual staple of summer fun in the community, and Chamber President Lionel Chitty said this year’s event is shaping up to be no different.
Chitty, an account manager at Sir Speedy in Plainview, said that the July 22 fair already has approximately 70-plus vendors booked and that, as always, admission for residents is free.
He added that the chamber is looking to upgrade its vendor offerings for attendees but will offer the same attractions that residents have enjoyed in the past.
“We’re working with Nassau Craft Fairs to bring in some higher-end quality vendors and just try to make it more of a family-oriented thing. We’re still going to have the rides and things of that nature and just try to get as many people out as we can,” Chitty said.
Past events have included a water slide, T-shirts for children, Ferris wheel, rock wall, swing ride, space ball, Marty (the caricaturist), live music and admission to the Hicksville Farmer’s Market, which has experienced significant growth over the past few years.
Regarding other upcoming events, the Hicksville Community Golf Outing is Monday, June 4, at the Town of Oyster Bay Golf Course in Woodbury and the Hicksville Community Council is hosting a business expo on June 7 at 7 p.m. at 28 West Carl Street in Hicksville.
The chamber meets every third Tuesday at Peppercorn’s Restaurant (25 East Marie Street) at 12:30 p.m. and new members are welcome.
“All they need to do is show up and it’s $20 to come in. It’s a pretty good spread as far as lunch goes,” Chitty added.
