Garden City graduate student Rob Finneran, Bentley University’s all-time leader in wins, strikeouts and ERA, has been selected to participate for the Division II-III team in the 38th annual New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association All-Star Game.
The game was played on Monday, June 4 in Lowell at LeLacheur Park, home of UMass-Lowell and the minor league Lowell Spinners, a farm team of the Boston Red Sox.
Finneran was also selected for the East Region Division II All-East second team by the American Baseball Coaches Association earlier this week.
A three-time All-Northeast-10 Conference honoree, including a first-team selection in 2012, Finneran had a standout final season for the Falcons after missing 2011 due to surgery. The right-hander posted an 8-3 record, tying the Bentley standard for wins in a season, with a 2.26 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 79.2 innings. He didn’t allow a run in three of his 12 starts, including a seven-hit shutout at Adelphi, and yielded only one run in three others. Two of those were complete-game efforts against 2012 NCAA tournament teams, Saint Anselm and regional champion Southern New Hampshire.
Of the 37 Northeast-10 pitchers who threw at least 60 innings this season, Finneran was one of only two who didn’t allow a home run, a distinction he shared with East Region Pitcher of the Year Tim Flight of Southern New Hampshire.
Finneran, in three Bentley seasons, was 21-8 overall with a 2.81 ERA and 229 strikeouts.
The All-Region nod was Finneran’s second of the year. Previously, he was chosen to the Daktronics Division II East Region second team by the region’s sports information directors.
