Baymen named champions for the 6th year in a row
When you consider that the Varsity career of a high school athlete is usually just four years, it is a truly remarkable achievement for a high school program to win six championships in a row. There is one constant in a situation like this. Coaching.
Head Coach Jay Davis, Assistant Coach Scott Lineman and JV Coach Ron Scudder hold the keys to teaching and inspiring young athletes to play at their best all season long. Coach Davis has garnered Coach of the Year distinction in the past few years. This year Mr. Scott Lineman was recognized and honored with Assistant Coach of the Year.
And what a year it was. The Baymen finished with a record of 22 wins and two loses. Registering 22 wins in a season is outstanding. Logging 22 wins for the third consecutive season, as the Baymen have just done, is astounding.
Even with the balanced team effort that is the hallmark of Baymen baseball, there are always exceptional athletes that stand out.
Joe Siringo is a leader among champions. Joe was chosen as the League MVP for the second year in a row. Last year Mr. Siringo was picked for the All State First Team. (As of this printing, this year’s All State players have not been selected.) Joe has been honored with All County distinction for this season. On Friday, June 8, Joe played in the Nassau-Suffolk All Star Game at SUNY Farmingdale.
Joe Siringo was joined by teammate Michael Maloney on the field on Friday, June 15 at SUNY Farmingdale for the Exceptional Senior Game.
Catcher, Michael Maloney also earned All County honors as did junior Dylan Robinson. Phillip Mihlstin and Willie Treiber were selected as All Conference. Blake Meyer earned All League honors.
The Baymen will be graduating nearly half the roster this June. The coaching staff is already planning and preparing to do what it takes to be competitive in the 2013 season.
