Up And Down Broadway!
This article is not about the world famous Broadway in Manhattan. It concerns the Broadway that runs through Syosset, Jericho and Hicksville. Some people call it Route 106 and 107.
As a resident of Hicksville-Westbury and then Jericho over the last 48 years, I feel qualified to speak about this Broadway phenomenon.
Do you remember Nathan’s Famous Deli on Broadway? It was a great lunch spot with its delicious hot dogs, sauerkraut, mustard and specifically cut French-fries. It is now “On the Border,” a very good Mexican restaurant.
Another restaurant that left was Primavera or Capriccio’s, a former very elegant Italian restaurant. It has been replaced by a Japanese restaurant. Another Italian restaurant on Broadway is the incomparable Fanatico Italian Bistro and Bar. The crowds are out the door and testify to its luscious marinara sauce.
For shopping we have Waldbaums that was displaced by Whole Foods, but moved down the road. These two markets make for convenient and clean shopping.
Don’t forget Dunkin’ Donuts next to Waldbaums. For optical problems we have Pearl Vision. A huge Sears sits on Broadway for the purchasing of clothing and automobile repair. For you diner fans, we have two great diners: the Empire Diner, with Gus as host, that sits near the Long Island Railroad, our favorite. The Broadway Diner is also nearby, at a triangle in the road.
The Broadway Mall with Ikea and the Hicksville movies are another asset. Going back toward Jericho, we find CVS drug store, where we meet all our neighbors purchasing their medications and pharmaceuticals.
The Jericho Post Office is conveniently located and the staff is knowledgeable and courteous. Marshall’s clothing and housewares is a reasonable purchasing spot. Of course, we must mention the historic Milleridge Inn and Village, with its candy and bake shop.
