Jim Gounaris elected vice-president
At the annual reorganization meeting of the Herricks School Board Christine Turner was re-elected as president and Jim Gounaris was elected as vice-president.
Further, the two newly elected trustees Nancy Feinstein and Brian Hassan were sworn into office by board clerk Helen Costigan and they took their seats at the board table.
The board then went through a series of appointments for the Herricks 2012-13 school year including:
Helen Costigan was appointed district clerk and Mary Stein reappointed district treasurer. Further, Lydia Pettinato was appointed assistant district clerk and also assistant deputy treasurer.
Judy Miehling was appointed acting district clerk and Jim Brown reappointed clerk of the works-project manager for capital projects.
Jaspan Schlesinger, LLP was appointed general and labor counsel and Hawkins, Delafield and Wood appointed as bond counsel and that the firm of NYMAC (New York Municipal Advisors Corporation) be appointed fiscal advisors for the $7l, l799, 110 Capital Project approved by the voters at the annual district meeting held on May 20, 2008.
Dr. Bagdid Baghdassarin, of Great Neck, reappointed chief school physican at an annual retainer of $6,000. He has received no increase in his annual fee for many years.
R.S.Abrams was appointed district auditor to conduct the annual district audit including the GASB-34 requirement for the 2012-2013 school year not to exceed a charge of $42,700.
Pappas and Company was appointed internal auditors for the district at a fee not to exceed $24, 750.
Nawrocki Smith LLP was appointed to the position of internal claims auditor not to exceed the fee of $36,000.
Herricks Board Vice President Jim Gournaris and Trustee Brian Hassan were appointed to the BOCES Advisory Committee.
Regular Meeting
The board then opened the regular meeting.
The first item on the agenda was the acceptance of two cement planters from the Herricks Community Fund to be placed in front of the Herricks Community Center.
Herricks President Christine Turner said that the fund also wanted to donate two benches to be placed just inside the lobby of center, but was turned down due to the advice of the fire department.

The last item on the agenda was the Athletic Budget for 2012-2013.
Dr. Bierwirth asked the board if they wanted to increase the fees for athletic groups using the fields and for using the Herricks Community Center.
Board President Turner said she would like to seek a donation imposed rather than an increase in the fee depending on the group and how many times they meet and would be dependent on the organization and if they needed additional custodian coverage.
Board Vice-President Gournaris said it would depend on the organization. He said the parents of the Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops are also residents of the district.
At the end of the conversation, Dr. Bierwirth said he would come up with a formula and present it to the board at the next meeting, which is scheduled for July 19 at 7:15 p.m.
