Following a presentation by Inspector Sean McCarthy of the Third Precinct, the New Hyde Park Village Board conducted their regular monthly meeting.
For reference, the New Hyde Park Village Board only meets once a month during the summer months. These meetings take place on the third Tuesday of each month at 8 p.m. in the New Hyde Park Village Hall. The next meeting will take place on August 21st.
Opening the reports, Trustee Richard A. Coppola, Jr. was happy to announce that the Parks and Recreation Summer Program is currently underway with 83 morning members and 80 afternoon members. Looking forward to next year, Coppola is hoping to resurface the tennis, volleyball, and basketball courts to increase the quality and success of next summer’s program. He also asked that anyone interested in volunteering to help run sports clinics and events for next summer be sure to contact him.
In other summer events news, Trustee Donald B. Barbieri announced that a karaoke night was set for July 20, but took place prior to publication of The Illustrated. Another event is The Cold Spring Harbor Band Concert in the Park on Wednesday, August 1 at 7 p.m. featuring former New Hyde Park Village Clerk Patrick Farrell. This will be followed by the Sister Act Concert in the Park, also at Memorial Park, on August 30 at 7 p.m.
Moving into the financial and administrative reports, Trustee Lawrence J. Montreuil kept his report brief and stated that 82 new permits have been issued. These permits provide the village with $17,000 in revenue, which is up by 19 percent from May. Montreuil thanked and praised the Building Department for their efforts in issuing the new permits.
Deputy Mayor Robert A. Lofaro continued the administrative reports with an update regarding the 2012 Road Improvement Project. He was pleased to report that on June 26 the board passed a resolution to hire the Road Work Ahead firm to carry out the project.
The Road Work Ahead firm submitted the lowest bid of all bidders with a total project cost of $1,306,988.73. The Road Improvement Project is expected to begin work in four weeks. For full details on the Road Improvement Project, visit www.vnhp.org.
Mayor Petruccio closed out the meeting by happily reporting that the budget in 2013 should show a surplus of roughly $200,000. This indicates a successful first year after having to dip into the reserves for the first time last year. Petruccio said he was pleased that the imposed plans to recover the losses from the reserves is working as intended and it should continue to do so for the foreseeable future. As mentioned before, the next meeting is set for Aug. 21 at village hall at 8 p.m.
