“Step Into Art” at Long Island Children’s Museum will be featured until Sept. 2. Enter the framework of famous paintings, arrange works of art into your own art gallery, create a chalk wall mural, and experience art as never before in “Framed: Step into Art.” This imaginative and interactive exhibit is sure to bring out the inner artist in everyone. Uncover an artistic side through a number of creative activities, including: exploring Grant Wood’s “Dinner for Threshers” firsthand and sitting down for some home cooking before heading to the barn to check on the farm animals. Travel back to the Canadian Rockies in 1916 and discover camping gear like John Singer Sargent would have used. Ride Clementine Hunter’s “Big Chicken” and help complete Diego Rivera’s mural “Corn Festival.” View original and famous parodies of “Mona Lisa”; create your own version of Mona Lisa’s enigmatic expression. Class Reunion Of Class of 1965
The graduating class of Holy Ghost School, 1965, is sponsoring a reunion for all Holy Ghost/Holy Spirit students Saturday, October 27 at 6 p.m. at Umberto’s Restaurant and Pizzeria. Many a story of struggling families sending large numbers of children through parochial school will be remembered. Amazingly, most of the classes numbered 60 or more students with only one teacher, usually a nun. The class of ’65 has the distinction of being the last class to be so named before the change was made to Holy Spirit. These blue and white uniformed baby boomers started first grade in what was then a rickety older wooden building in disrepair, with the classrooms separated by army surplus parachutes hanging as dividers. To make room for the new school, the Catholic Church built in 1892 for Polish immigrants was moved from the northeast corner on Jericho Turnpike at S. 6th Street, directly west toward the rectory, and then sadly, later demolished. Tickets can be purchased through Paypal on the Facebook webpage “Holy Ghost New Hyde Park.” Additional activities may be planned. Email Ed Knapp at runskiride@gmail.com for more information. Seating is limited. Renowned guitarist Terry Brady will provide music.
