Plaza Theatrical Production presents Pinkalicious The Musical. Pinkalicious loves pink and wants everything in her life to be pink. Follow her through this musical romp of the famous children’s book. CafÉ Ablaze Reopening
CafÉ Ablaze Christian coffeehouse reopens the evening of Saturday, Sept. 22. Experience the best contemporary Christian music Long Island has to offer in Lutheran Church of the Resurrection’s beautifully decorated Christian coffeehouse. Open from 7 to 10:15 p.m. Guests sit at reserved candle-lit tables before the stage. Offerings of specialty coffees, teas, and dessert. All are welcome. Tickets are $10, or two for $15. Volunteers Sought for Breast Cancer Program
If you’ve had breast cancer and want to pay it forward become a hotline volunteer. Women and men who are breast cancer survivors and others who are concerned about breast health issues can become volunteers at the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program in Garden City. Volunteers can help by doing fundraising and publicity, as well as by answering hotline calls. Hotline volunteers provide emotional support, information and referral services to callers with breast health concerns. Although the program is housed on Long Island, hotline services and telephone counseling are available to callers throughout New York State. The next five-session training cycle will be starting at the end of September 2012 at the Adelphi University School of Social Work in Garden City. Creative Cups
The popular, life-affirming event of the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program, is returning and people are invited to participate by creating an “art bra” or becoming a sponsor. Submitted creations must be received by Oct. 15 to be included in the auction/gala (to be held on March 14, 2013 at Adelphi University in Garden City). Those wishing to create a bra are encouraged to sign up early, as entrants will be limited to 200. Creative Cups celebrates the lives of those living with breast cancer and those lost to this terrible disease. Free Breast Cancer Support Groups
The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer program is offering new support groups. There is no cost for any group; however, pre-registration is required. Additional groups are formed upon request, including groups for men with breast cancer and family members. All groups meet at Adelphi University School of Social Work in Garden City. Starting October 1:
• Support group for women newly diagnosed with breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
• Support group for women post treatment will meet weekly for eight weeks from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
• Support group for young women with breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
• Support group for women with metastatic breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
Starting October 2:
• A telephone support group for women with breast cancer will be held weekly for eight weeks from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Furniture Needed
The A.T. Stewart Exchange Consignment Shop, 109 Eleventh St., Garden City, is looking for furniture to add to its inventory. The shop can use cocktail tables, end tables, consoles, chairs of all types, dressers, dining room tables, breakfronts, servers, secretaries, mirrors, etc….it’s all in demand. If you have a particularly large piece, take a picture, and show it to Kris or Jill at the shop (516 746-8900). Consignees get 50 percent of the selling price. Parking is convenient because the shop is located on the lower level of the Garden City Historical Museum.

•Anxiety And Depression Group, a free self-help group for anxiety, panic disorder, depression, OCD and other nervous fears now meets every Thursdays at 8 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, corner of Chester Ave. and New Hyde Park Rd., Garden City. Through the Recovery International process, members learn to manage stress, panic, anxiety, depression, anger, irrational fears, phobias, compulsions, obsessions and other emotional or behavioral problems. Members also learn how to face and manage psychosomatic symptoms such as heart palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, sweats, fatigue, headaches, numbness, chest pressure and sleep problems. All group leaders are trained lay volunteers who have experienced some type of difficulty with an emotional problem and practice the Recovery International method of self-help.
