The Hicksville Hurricanes 10U baseball team completed their summer season with a 12-2 win over the Long Island Devils in the LSW Summer Championship on Sept. 8 at Alken Field in Seaford.
As the game remained scoreless for three-plus innings with great pitching from both teams, the Hurricanes scored two in the bottom of the 4th to take a 2-0 lead. The Devils fought back with two runs in the top of the 5th to tie the game at 2-2. In the bottom of the 5th inning Matt Viscovich lead off the inning with a walk. After stealing second and third base, Anthony Pandolfi lined a single to right field to score Viscovich from third. Sean Giordano followed two batters later with a two-run double that put the Hurricanes ahead to stay. This ignited a 10-run inning, which propelled the Hurricanes to a 12-2 win after five innings.
Another great summer of baseball punctuated with a championship win. Offensively, this was a true team effort as all of the boys contributed with patience at the plate, drawing walks and timely hitting. On the mound Nick Hagstrom pitched five innings for the complete-game win. Congratulations to the Hurricanes for a great season and their championship.
