2nd Annual Bully Breed Brigade Fundraiser
There will be a “Yappy Hour” Bully Breed Brigade fundraiser kick-off event at Mulcahy’s in Wantagh from 6 to 9 p.m. Video highlights from last year, comedian, band, appetizers, beer/wine/soda, and raffles. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door.

Dinner And Square Dance
Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church will be hosting a chili/spaghetti and meatball dinner and a night of square dancing with a professional caller. From 6 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $10 per adult and $5 for children 12 and under. Tickets must be purchased in advance by calling the church at 516-775-9669. The 2nd Annual Bully Breed Brigade
A day devoted to public awareness about the plight and potential of the Pit types lingering in shelters and foster care. Event will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hosted by Last Hope Animal Rescue & the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter located at Beltagh Ave., Wantagh (the street that adjoins the two shelters.) Most of the shelters, rescues, and demos will be set up in front of Hempstead Shelter, 3320 Beltagh Ave., with the overflow in the Last Hope parking lot at 3300 Beltagh Ave. Activities include an adoption fair, speakers, vendors, trainers, holistic rehabilitation experts, community outreach, Lug Nut weight pulling demo, Tellington Touch demo, and more. There will be a Pit Parade at 1 p.m. Tia Torres from the Animal Planet show Pit Bulls & Parolees is expected to attend. Bethpage Ocean To Sound 50-Mile Relay
The Bethpage Ocean to Sound 50-Mile Relay will be held on Sunday, Sept. 23 to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Start time is 8 a.m. Begins at Jones Beach and ends at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park in Oyster Bay. Teams must register online at www.glirc.org. Cost: $360/team if registered by Sept. 16. No day-of-race entries will be accepted.
Nassau County Historical Society Meeting
Ray Lumpp “Memories of the 1948 Olympics” meeting at 2 p.m at The Community Church Of East Williston, 45 East Williston (Hillside) Ave., East Williston. At the 1948 Olympics in London, Long islander Ray Lumpp played on the U.S. basketball team, which won all eight of its games and an Olympic gold medal. The 2012 coach invited Ray back this year to London to see this year’s Olympics. Ray Lumpp was athletic director of the NYAC, which produced 230 Olympic medal winners – more than any other athletic club in the world. He will share his memories with us. Country-Western Party
A Country-Western party will be hosted by the Nassau & Queens Chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star on Sunday, Sept. 30, at 3 p.m. The party will be held in the Parish Hall of the Church of St Jude, 3606 Lufberry Ave., Wantagh. Free Rabies Vaccine For Pets
The Last Hope Animal Rescue will be hosting a free rabies vaccine clinic for dogs and cats from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Last Hope Adoption Center, 3300 Beltagh Ave., Wantagh. All Long Island pet owners are eligible; no appointment necessary. All pets must be at least 4 months old. Dogs must be leashed and cats need to be in carriers. •Employment Referrals for Seniors. The NC Dept. of Senior Citizen Affairs is a resource to employers seeking qualified workers and to mature job seekers, 55+, who want assistance with employment and résumé preparation. Services are free of charge.
•The Foster Grandparents Program is recruiting senior volunteers to share their time and love with children in Nassau County. Volunteers receive a non-reportable stipend, transportation reimbursement, paid holidays, sick days and vacation days.
•If you are 55+, make your spare time count. Join the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, a national organization, and share your talents and skills at one of the many diversified placements.
