Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Set For December 7

Local organizations contributing to annual family-friendly holiday event

The Hicksville-Jericho Rotary, with the help of the Hicksville Fire Department and the Hicksville Water District, will be holding the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m. in Kennedy Park, Route 106 and Jerusalem Avenue, in Hicksville.

The large Christmas tree located in the center of the park, as well as 20 other trees nearby, will be lit and decorated with help from local business owners, civic associations, service associations and veterans groups. In addition, Fresh 102.7 FM will be on the scene to play some holiday music, while the Hicksville Ladies Auxiliary from the Hicksville Fire Department will be with serving hot chocolate.

The evening starts at 6:30 p.m. with the introduction of local politicians. This will be followed by the Cub Scout Honor Guard, who will lead in the Pledge of Allegiance. Next up, the Girl Scouts will sing holiday songs as well as patriotic songs in remembrance of Pearl Harbor. Santa Claus will then make his magical appearance, arriving on a Hicksville Fire Department firetruck. Santa will then do the countdown to lighting the trees. Once the trees are lit, the Ella Marie School of Dance will be performing several wonderful holiday dance numbers that everyone always enjoys.

The Hicksville-Jericho Rotary has been hosting the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony for the past 18 years.

“We have been serving Hicksville and Jericho since 1951, providing scholarships to local high school students, supporting the Hicksville Boys and Girls Club, the local food pantry, the Gift of Life and many more worthwhile projects,” said a Rotary representative.
