The Notre Dame Flying Fish recently captured second place in the Division A CYO Swimming Championships at the Aquatic Center at Eisenhower Park. The team broke eight championship meet records on its way to its finish.
Sean McClellan, 12, Adrian Chan, 14 and Sabrina Mauro,14, all broke records in the under 50-yard breast stroke and butterfly stroke. Kealan O’Sullivan, Joseph Mattei, Lucas Silva and John Patrick Maroney bested the 8-year-old, under 100-yard medley, while McCleellan, Chan, Luke Tesoriero and Dylan Ng scored high in the 12-year-old, under 100-yard medley.
Matt Novella, Ng, McClellan and Chan placed high in the 12-year-old, under 100-yard free style. Sheila Krische, Mauro, Ally Schillinger and Samantha Merino succeeded in the 17-year-old, under 200-yard medley.
Theresa Mattei, Cassie Scandalios, Mauro and Merino exceeded expectations in the 17-year-old, under 200-yard free style.
After capturing the 2012 Division B Championships, the team was elevated to Division A for the 2013 season to swim against perennial powerhouses St. Anne’s and St. Aidan’s. The team recorded a dual team record of 6-1-1 with a huge upset win against St. Aidan’s and a tie against St. Anne’s.
In its 17-year history, the Notre Dame Flying Fish had never beaten St. Aidan’s. Junior Coaches Eddie Krische, Andrew Seger, Richard Husch and Katie Scherder, with Senior Coaches Jaime Silva, Kevin Seger, Paul Krische and Marie Loftus ran the team.
