NHPLL Girls Snippets
Mathnasium faced off with the tough Valley Stream team on May 4 and ended in an 8-8 tie. Paige Jones lead the pitching crew with four innings, giving up one earned run and five unearned. Claire Mikowski came in to close with bases loaded the score was 6-8 and Valley Stream’s leadoff batter at the plate. Mikowski struck out one and the second batter hit a line drive through the SS Sophia Kasimatis to bringing in the tying run when the umpire called the game due to time limit restrictions.
Kas had a single on the day and Julia K and Paige J had 2 singles and 3 RBI’s each. Stephanie Milinic had 3 walks and scored 2 runs while Faith Lusk had a hit and scored a run. The team stranded 9 runners with limited stealing rules in affect. Mathnasium battled Valley Steam again on the 6th. Both teams were well matched and challenged each other on both sides of the plate.
This time NHP came out on top 5-2 in 5 1/2 innings. With NHP behind 3-1 in the 4th inning Sophia Giamarino lead off with a nice single followed by Erin Batting walk. Jones ripped a shot to right center for another single and one RBI followed by Claire Mikowski’s monster double to right center again and clearing the bases with two RBI’s and taking the lead then advancing for the score on an overthrow to 2nd. Rullo and Batting had 2 walks and 2 stolen base each and the pitching crew threw 63 percent for strikes with 16 Ks and fuve hits on the evening.
Zadnik DDS faced off with the strong pitching of Garden City South 2 to win 8-2. With three call-ups to field, the NHP team the younger girls came ready to play as Sara Hopkins and Lauren Krupa scored 3 runs with two hits each and two RBI’s between them to lead the offense.
NHPLL Girls Major Division
Giant Industrial faced off with Malvern 1 and walked away with a 17-2 win with the assistance of several call-ups to help them field a team on May 4. Giant met with West Hempstead on the May 6 and pulled off a 18-10 win at Averill Field.
In Giant Industrial’s fourth game of the period, they spared with Garden City South 2 team at Carey HS with a 20-5 win. This makes a seven game winning streak for the Industrials.
NHP’s William A. Gross teamonly had one game for the period and they faced off with Garden City South 1 team. Although Gross was short handed, they were augmented by their sister team and won the closely game 18-12.
Giant Industrial is 8-1 while William A. Gross is 4-2 on the 2013 season.
