The Boys and Girls Club of Oyster Bay-East Norwich celebrated their first spring luncheon at the deSeversky Mansion on Wednesday, June 12. The event included lunch, a vendor fair, and raffles to benefit the club.
The attire for the luncheon was dress to impress, and the prizes in the raffle — as well as the vendors present — set the theme.
Centerpieces, favors, and jazz piano player, Robert Lepley, were donated by Grace and Gregg Haggerty. Party favors were planting pots hand painted by the children of the club, each pot complete with a plant, gloves, and gummy worms.
“We’d like to thank the co-chairs, Marie Bahnik and Ewa Litke, for putting this event together,” said Lori Bahnik, co-president of the board and fundraising chairperson.
Bahnik went on to state the importance of supporting the club through this luncheon and other events in an effort to provide the youth of Oyster Bay with a stable, fun, and developmental environment.
Proceeds from the occasion went towards aiding families who cannot afford to send their children to the summer camp. One parent, though her children are grown and no longer attend the club, stated she could not have kept her career without the Boys and Girls Club.
“I knew that my children were safe, they were having fun, and they were supervised while they were at the club, in both the before and after school programs, as well as the camps. This is why I stay involved.”
The camp takes members on various trips ranging from petting zoos, to movie theaters, to adventure parks. Every other day members stay “on-site” where various activities are planned for the day.
This summer the camp has stretched from it’s normal six weeks to nine. The camp will run from June 24 to August 23. “We are excited about our new extended format, and we are gearing up for the summer season”, says Lori Wood, assistant executive director.
