Edward Charles Albert, 77, of Keene, NH passed away unexpectedly at his home on June 15. Albert was born Nov. 26, 1935 in Brookline MA. He attended Michael Driscoll School followed by Brookline High School where he graduated from in 1954. Albert attended University of Connecticut at Storrs Campus and received his Bachelor’s degree in 1958. He served in the U.S. Army starting in 1959 and was a First Lieutenant Transportation Corps when he was discharged in 1966.
Albert re-located to Long Island in 1962 and taught social studies at Hicksville High School. He married Barbara Kozakiewicz in 1964. Albert received his Master’s degree from UConn in 1970.
In 1973, he and his wife Barbara purchased the family summer home in Stoddard, NH. Since they were both schoolteachers, the whole family spent the summer in Stoddard each year. Albert retired from teaching in 1990 and in 1996 moved to Keene, NH.
In Keene, NH, Albert was known from his involvement in democratic politics. From school board to city to state to national elections, Albert was known to be involved with campaigns. His involvement with the Cheshire County Democrats will not be forgotten from the Friday Lunch Group he created for fundraising and idea sharing to his activity as the “ticket agent” for local Democratic events. Cheshire County Democrats presented Albert with awards of recognition multiple times.
Albert was pre-deceased by his sister Eunice Cauper and his wife Barbara Albert. Survivors include his children Alicia O’Peirce and her husband Kevin of Honolulu HI, Ben Albert of Stoddard NH, second wife Rita Albert of Roslyn, and companion Barbara Kono of Brattleboro, VT.
An open house was held in Keene on June 23, to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cheshire Democrats for a scholarship in Albert’s name. The Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, NH assisted the family with arrangements.
