A review of Rolling Stones Tribute Band
New Hyde Park residents gathered on June 19 at Memorial Park, to watch Satisfaction, a Rolling Stones Tribute Band, perform live. The crowd filled more than half the park on Wednesday evening to witness the event and the performers impersonating the original legends of rock.
While seeing the band Satisfaction play and hearing the music it was like watching and listening to the actual Rolling Stones members live. Lead singer and band manager, Chris LeGrand, had the ‘moves like jagger,’ which were flawlessly achieved. LeGrand started this project in 2001 in his hometown, Texarkana, TX.
Jim Riddick imitated the awesome riffs of lead guitarist, Keith Richards. Wade Fowler was the drummer of the powerful rhythm and beats made famous by Charlie Watts. Dominick Lanzo played the guitar as the Ron Wood look-alike and Marvin Sperling impersonated bassist, Bill Wyman.
Prior to the formation of the band, LeGrand was in several groups, Jaxx, Wheat Stone Bridge and a hair metal ’80s band called ‘High Risk. He believes that it is important for young musicians to start by trying to find their own sound or their own voice and advises to “stick with it” and “see where it takes you first.”
“There’s nothing wrong with being in a cover band as a tribute artist,” said LeGrand. “There’s many groups making a living doing that and we’re one of them.”
Satisfaction will travel to San Diego for two nights with an orchestra, dubbed “Symphony for the Devil.” They also have a theatrical show and a touring production with the Beatles tribute band in the works.
There was a positive reaction from the audience who were seated clapping their hands, tapping their feet or simply got up to dance to the music. One mother of a young boy had to to chase after her son who wanted to go up on stage.
Legrand not only looked and sang like Mick Jagger, but he even had the traditional British accent.
“I thought they were really great and when are they coming back to town”, said attendee Robin Adams. Another viewer, Debbie Kessman was only disappointed that they didn’t play the song Satisfaction.
“Not exactly my type of music, but I did enjoy it. I liked alot of the songs,” North Lions Club President Grace Kratz said.
Marilyn Obert-Thorn added that “it was a wonderful community function”. Lisa Miranda, the head of the Cultural Commission in New Hyde Park said, “I love doing this, it is our way of giving back to the community and I’m glad we had a good turn out, people seemed to enjoy it.”
This concert was the first this year for the Concerts in the Park Series, which continues throughout the summer. More performances are scheduled in the park on Long Island and such tribute bands like ABBA GIRLZ, Simply The Best: The Supremes Tribute, The Chiclettes (a girl band singing songs from famous female groups since ’50s) and Beatlemania.
“We’re hoping that many village residents are here tonight to enjoy the show and want to thank the folks at Maspeth Savings Bank who sponsered it,” New Hyde Park Mayor Robert Lofaro said.
