Old OB In Photographs
Raynham Hall Museum exhibit now through December features rare photographs of Oyster Bay from their collection. The photos are street scenes from 1927, 1958, and 1969 and the show includes photos of what the streetscapes look today. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. (Labor Day weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.). The museum is at 20 West Main Street, OB. For information call 922-6808.
Unframed at OBHS
The Oyster Bay Historical Society exhibit, “Unframed” features small unframed works: portrait, still life and landscape sketches that show the artist’s process of observing reality and problem solving on canvas. Classically trained artists Kristin Künc and Rob Zeller join in a visual dialog that has been going on between artists and subject for centuries. Open now through July 12, at the Angela Koenig Center, 20 Summit Street, Oyster Bay. For information call 922-5032.

Fourth of July Parade
The Quentin Roosevelt Post 4, American Legion hosts the annual Fourth of July Parade. Marchers will assembly at 10 a.m. on Church Street, in the parking lot behind Townsend Square. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. and goes to the Derby-Hall Bandstand in Townsend Park where dignitaries will speak. Raynham Hall Museum staffers will again march in the parade in authentic Colonial costumes.
Sagamore Hill
Sagamore Hill Historic National Site will not be holding any Fourth of July events this year. “This is the first time, since 1952 that we haven’t done something on the Fourth of July,” said Park Ranger Scott Gurney.”We are planning for the future, with machines all over the place.” The Roosevelt mansion is under renovation and the Old Orchard Museum will be closed as a result of Sequestration with no staff available. Ice Cream Social
The Oyster Bay Historical Society (OBHS) invites residents and visitors to stop by right after the Oyster Bay Fourth of July Parade for an old-fashioned Ice Cream Social. They will be serving complementary lemonade, iced tea and chocolate and vanilla ice cream cones to all who come to the Earle-Wightman House garden, 20 Summit Street. Enjoy the shady lawn, the site of games and friendly conversation. Cookies and fresh herb sachets will be for sale to support the Beverly Mohlenhoff Fund for Collection Management and Development. Dancing In The Street
Oyster Bay Main Street Association presents “Dancing in the Street,” a series of four free Fridays in July in Oyster Bay for dancers of all ages, skills, and styles from 7 to 9 p.m. Sponsored by BMW of Oyster Bay they will bring their newest model cars for viewing on Audrey Avenue around the Bandstand. Bring a chair if desired. All steps are geared for singles and couples alike. Louis del Prete will take the lead on July 5 with music from the 1940s right up to today. Included will be line dancing, Latin music, ballroom, and any other style desired.

Movies In The Park hosted by the Locust Valley Chamber of Commerce takes place Friday Nights In July on the 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th. Movies to be announced. Bring a blanket or some chairs to Thomas Park and join the community for this new LVCC Summer Event!

Magic Show
Local resident and beloved Cold Spring High School teacher, Chris Homer brings his very special magic show to the Walled Garden July 6 at 11 a.m. at the Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve, 25 Lloyd Harbor Road, Lloyd Harbor. It is for children of all ages! Bring a picnic lunch and stay afterwards to enjoy the beauty and peace of this special place, or take a walk through the Park. Free event, parking fee or Empire Pass.

Photo Safari Race
You may not be able to take rocks or plants home with you from Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, but you can take as many photographs as you would like! Come join their free photo safari and race on July 7, noon to 4 p.m. against others to collect pictures of “specimens.” First and second place prizes will be given. The race begins promptly at 2 p.m. Please bring a camera or smartphone to participate.

Preservation Awards
The Advocates for Historic Preservation and Education Awards reception takes place on July 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Woodlands (the mansion at the Town of Oyster Bay Golf Course on South Woods Road, Woodbury). The honorees are Long Islanders who have distinguished themselves as advocates for history’s vital role in our lives today. The event raises funds in support of the Oyster Bay Historical Society’s ongoing programs and services, including exhibitions, lectures, book signings, workshops, and other community events. Invasive Species Pull
The North Shore Land Alliance is asking for volunteers to come out and “pull” for the environment. President Lisa Ott said, “It’s mile-a-minute season.” The dreaded mile-a-minute vine is making its mark on Long Island as never before. Known for its rapid growth (up to six inches in a day) this invasive pest is outcompeting desirable native vegetation. The work starts at 9:30 a.m., on Thursday July 11; and Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 28. Additional times may be arranged for groups. The action qualifies for Community Service credit.
