As a 20-plus year resident of Oyster Bay, I’ve seen many things change for the better in our town and few things that took us backward. It’s rare that residents have a chance to vote directly on important issues like preserving our suburban quality of life…with one single yes vote. Oyster Bay Town residents have this opportunity on Tuesday, August 20, when they vote yes to approve the Town’s land sale. There’s so much at stake and it’s time for us to show we really care about our quality of life by voting yes and being heard, loud and clear.
The August 20 vote is our chance to approve a proposed sale of surplus Town of Oyster Bay property located on the LIE service road in Syosset.
Why do we want to approve the sale?
Fact: A yes vote approving
the sale will generate $32.5 million for the Town in 2013, money needed to maintain town services and avoid immediate budget cuts.
Fact: A yes vote supports mixed-use development that meets our community’s needs, like next generation/senior housing or a medical facility.
Fact: A yes vote kills plans for a mega-mall. This sale could finally stop efforts by the Taubman Company to build an un-needed and unwanted mega-mall on the old Cerro Wire property. And Taubman is driving the opposition to the land sale.
That’s why everyone needs to Vote yes To Stop The Mall And Support Our Quality Of Life on August 20.
Voting will take place at your regular polling place. Go to nomallhere.com for more information. If you plan to be away on August 20 you can still vote by absentee ballot. Go to nassauvotes.com for information on how to obtain an absentee ballot.
It will only take a few minutes of your time to stop by your polling place and vote yes on August 20. Your YES vote will ensure a better future for our Town, and we owe it to each other and to our kids. There is nothing more important than that.
