Old OB In Photographs

Raynham Hall Museum exhibit now through December features rare photographs of Oyster Bay from their collection. The photos are street scenes from 1927, 1958, and 1969 and the show includes photos of what the streetscapes look today. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. (Labor Day weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.). The museum is at 20 West Main Street, OB. For information call 922-6808.

Unframed at OBHS

The Oyster Bay Historical Society exhibit, “Unframed” features small unframed works: portrait, still life and landscape sketches that show the artist’s process of observing reality and problem solving on canvas. Classically trained artists Kristin Künc and Rob Zeller join in a visual dialog that has been going on between artists and subject for centuries. Plein Air Competition

Teaching Studios 3rd Annual Plein Air Competition will be held at Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay, on August 9 and 10 until 3 p.m. Selected artists will compete for over $2000 in prizes donated by
Jerry’s Artarama, as well as a $1,000 grand prize awarded by the Teaching Studios.
The event culminates in an exhibit and sale at the Koenig Center, 20 Summit Street, OB on Aug. 10. Call 516-922-5032.

Tilles Center Art

On Aug. 9, international artist Alli Berman known for her PuzzleArt will be at the Tilles Center Atrium at LIU Post for eight hours, starting at noon, using time-lapse photography techniques for her new “Connect to Creativity – A Social Practice Art” project that will preserve the installation for posterity. The public is invited to attend and become part of the work. She will be available to answer questions and lead people in her “couch-potato easy” cognitive calisthenics to help them improve their memory, focus and more.

Plein Art Exhibition

The Koenig Center, 20 Summit Street, Oyster Bay, exhibits 35 [plus one from juror Bennett Vadnais] Plein Art paintings of Planting Fields Arboretum Historic State Park. The reception takes place on Saturday, Aug. 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. The finalists will have their works displayed and on sale with purchases benefiting the OBHS Koenig Center’s collection development. Concert Film at LIU Post

Chicago In Chicago is playing on Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. at Tilles Center. Set against the stunning background of Lake Michigan, Chicago wows a sold-out crowd at the Charter One Pavilion with an evening of hits including “Saturday in the Park,” “Make Me Smile” and “You’re the Inspiration.” Fee $10. Tilles Center Mega screen viewing is enhanced by a new state-of-the-art sound system.

Poetry in Motion

Dr. Linda Opyr, Nassau County Poet Laureate 2011-13, will lead a poetry workshop on the grounds of Sagamore Hill National Historic Site on Aug. 11 at both 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Participants should bring a pen and notebook, and wear comfortable shoes and clothing.  The workshop is open to individuals 12 years of age and older.  No prior experience is necessary!  Participants should meet at the Theodore Roosevelt Museum at Old Orchard.  Should inclement weather prevail, the workshop will be held in the Theodore Roosevelt Museum at Old Orchard. Cruise Night

The OB-EN Chamber of Commerce welcomes you to Cruise Night, Tuesdays at 5:45 p.m. This night in Oyster Bay includes live music arranged for by Chair Austin Azzaretto from his friends in the world of musical entertainment. There is always a 50/50 raffle, and great restaurants to enjoy. At the July 30 Cruise Night it had a full house with overflow visitors parking in Firemen’s Field. Concert Film at Tilles

Documentary on Woodstork on Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. Documentary footage of 1960s hippie counterculture and its music, with super groups and artists such as The Who, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Ten Years After, Jefferson Airplane and many, many more over a three-day period of drugs, rain, peace and love: it’s Woodstock. Today is the vote on the sale of the Town of Oyster Bay DPW center at Miller Place. The land is next to the controversial site developer Traubman wanted to use to create an upscale mall. Vote at you local polling place.

Jay-Z Concert Film

Jay-Z: Fade to Black is playing on Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. The film chronicles Jay-Z’s legendary sold-out performance at Madison Square Garden in November 2003 with guest performances such as Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliot, R. Kelly, Foxy Brown, Pharrell, and Questlove and The Illadelphoics, along with appearances by hop-hop icons Damon Dash and Rick Rubin, Slick and many more. Live Art Fusion

As part of the Labor Day events in town, LI Picture Frame & Art Gallery at 4 Audrey Ave, Oyster Bay is holding a street event from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.  Twelve artists will be simultaneously painting to the music of the Ken Talve Trio, Saturday, August 31. The band consists of Ken Talve, guitar; Chris Eisener Jr., bass; and Frank Bellucci, drums. All artists are invited to come and paint live and exhibit that night. Free admission. More information will be announced about the Oyster Bay Street Fair planned for that weekend.
