The Oyster Bay Rotary Club celebrated Tom Tetro’s 90th birthday at a lunch meeting at Jack Halyards American Restaurant on Wednesday, July 10. He joined Rotary in 2001. His Rotary friends came to celebrate the birthday, including his friend and neighbor Chris Gallagher’s wife Kathy and children Brian and Beth Anne. Kelsey Gallagher is away at Rochester Institute of Technology.
Tom Tetro’s daughter Tracy lives in Manhattan and daughter Valerie lives in Annapolis. Tom did offset lithography, working with printing and printing supplies, said Rotarian Jim Werner.
Many Rotarians attended the party including past co-chairs Judith Wasilchuk and Beverly Zembko, Jim Fuccio Esq., Veterinarian Surinder Wadyal, Walter Imperatore, Chris Gallagher, Father Peter Casparian, Mary Anne Spina, Senator Carl Marcellino, Rich Ciechiuch, James Werner and Jack Bernstein.
“Many people were there and it was a good time for all,” said Rotary past co-president Judith Wasilchuk.
At their July 31 meeting past president Chris Gallagher reported that Mr. Tetro was at Winthrop Hospital and everyone wished him well. In the 2011 – 2012 term, Chris Gallagher was president and his vice president was Tom Tetro. At the meeting, Donald Zoeller, Esq. was congratulated for his interview seen on News 12 in honor of the 60th anniversary of the Korean War. He is the commander of the Korean War Veterans Association. The reporters interviewed him for two hours for a two-minute segment. His wife Sue was in the background working in the kitchen.
At the meeting Walter Imperatore, a member of the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Chamber of Commerce’s Cruise Night Committee said they had a tremendous attendance at their Tuesday, July 30 car show. They had to turn people away that wanted to exhibit their cars. They kept asking him to be sure that “one more car could fit in.” Walter said the cars were parked side by side along Audrey Avenue all the way to the LIRR station at the northern end of the avenue. Many people who couldn’t get in chose to park in Firemen’s Field and walk back to the car show. “There were over 200 cars in the show and about 100 parked in Firemen’s Field,” he said. “There were a lot of friendly people on the street enjoying themselves,” he said.
Rotary meets at 12:15 pm every Wednesday in the back room of Jack Halyard’s. If someone is interested in joining, a Rotarian is usually contacted to sponsor that person, who attends three meetings before being asked to join the club.
