Substance Abuse Seminar

On Thursday, Aug. 22 the county will hold a substance abuse seminar at the Hicksville firehouse, 20 East Marie Street from 7 to 9 p.m. The sessions are free to attend. The seminar, “You’re Not Alone,” includes informal group discussions with the experts, including some one-on-one time to chat and ask private questions. County staff will also train and provide attendees over the age of 18 with nasal Narcan or Naloxone kits, which can reverse the fatal effects of a heroin or prescription painkiller overdose. The panel also includes an addict in recovery, as well as the parent of someone in recovery, to offer their perspectives. Temple B’nai Torah of Wantagh and Temple Beth Am of Merrick invite the community to screen the 1989 Woody Allen classic Crimes and Misdemeanors starring Woody Allen, Martin Landau, and Claire Bloom at Temple B’nai Torah at 2900 Jerusalem Avenue, in Wantagh, to celebrate Selichot, or Days of Forgiveness on Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. The evening begins with Havdalah followed by the film and a discussion on how it relates to the holiday and desert.
