Natural History Walk at Jones Beach State Park

9 a.m. On this walk with the Huntington Oyster Bay Audubon, we will look for all types of insects, including moths, late summer stray butterflies, and early migrant dragonflies. This is a good time of year to look for Primrose Moth. We will also pay attention to beach vegetation and migrant birds. Participants are advised to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a hat since it may be extremely bright and sunny. Location/Directions: Jones Beach Boat Basin. Take the Meadowbrook Parkway south until it ends at Jones Beach. Go over the drawbridge and immediately bear to the right towards the West End. Park on the right at the boat basin by the Coast Guard Station. There is an entry fee which is waived for those that have a NYS Parks Empire Passport sticker. Call 516-509-1094 to register. There will be something for everyone as local artists, musicians, performers, and collectors line Audrey Avenue, South Street and East Main Street in the upcoming two-day Oyster Bay Arts Festival.

An Evening Art Stroll

The festivities begin with a Saturday evening art stroll through Oyster Bay from 5 to 9 p.m. Visitors will soak in the treasures of a talented community of artists, and collectors transforming downtown sidewalks into an outdoor gallery.  Live music and an outdoor marketplace will complement the artistic experience. Feed your mind and then feed your appetite – call ahead to make dinner reservations at our many fine eateries. How about the kids – check the Bay Time Activities website (www.baytimeactivities.com), a parent’s guide to children’s activities in Oyster Bay-East Norwich, for Saturday evening “drop-off” programs allowing parents to stroll and dine while kids have their own artistic fun.

Family Arts Festival

This hands-on festival will feature children’s crafts, knitting, pottery, cooking, live music, story telling, dance, martial arts, artist demonstrations, face painting, water sports activities, food, drinks, treats and an artist marketplace from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This festival is free of charge and open to the public, however, some activities will include a fee. Babies And BimBam

A fun, interactive class is coming up at HANC of Plainview for children turning 2 by December 31. Cost is $50 for six classes, or pay-as-you-go for $10 per class. Classes will be meeting on Friday mornings from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. For more information, contact shecht@hanc.org, or call 681-5922.

Miscarriage Support Group

A safe, confidential, supportive environment in which to talk about what you have been through, your reactions and feelings, and how to move forward. You are not alone! Facilitated by a professional therapist. Meetings held on three consecutive Tuesday evenings at 8 p.m. in the Hicksville-Plainview area. $60 for three meetings. Free Veterinary Lectures

Once a month through December, Long Island Cat Fanciers sponsors free lectures given by top local veterinarians on topics relevant to dog and cat owners. All members of the public are welcome to attend. Non-Profit Support Group: Clutterers Anonymous (CLA)

A 12-step self-help group, offers help and support to those who have clutter problems in their homes or workplace. Meets at the following locations: Thursdays, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 265 Asbury Ave, Westbury first and third Friday, 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the School of the Community Reformed Church, 90 Plandome Rd, Manhasset.  Monday evenings, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Plainview-Old Bethpage Library, 999 Old Country Road, Plainview.
