The top local finisher in the 26th annual Runner’s Edge-Town of Oyster Bay Triathlon was 16-year-old Glen Lostritto of Old Brookville, who took second place in the 16-19 age group and finished 18th overall. Kelly Pickard was the first Oyster Bay woman to cross the line, putting her in seventh place overall among the women. The triathlon was held on Saturday, Aug. 24 under near-perfect weather conditions.

Catherine Soler of Oyster Bay (third female 20-24 age group)
Darren Monti of Muttontown (fifth male 35-39 age group)
Jeri Cavagnaro of Locust Valley (first woman 65-69 age group)
Daniel O’Connell of Oyster Bay (first male, 65-69 age group)
Steve Schloss of Muttontown (first male 75-79 age group).
The prime charitable beneficiary of the triathlon was once again the Life Enrichment Center at Oyster Bay. Executive Director Sylvana Gulla was on hand at Roosevelt Park to cheer the athletes home. Other beneficiaries include the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the Gerald Kaufman Memorial Fund.
The Greater Long Island Running Club once again collaborated with the Town of Oyster Bay in staging the event, with GLIRC’s Ray Farrell and Jose Lopez serving as co-directors with Recreation Supervisor Diane Ramos weighing in for the town.
The event consists of a half-mile swim in Oyster Bay Harbor, followed by a 9.3 bike ride through Oyster Bay, Oyster Bay Cove and Laurel Hollow, and finishing up with a 5-kilometer run up to Planting Fields and back to the finish at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park.
The main event was followed by the Runner’s Edge – Town of Oyster Bay Junior Triathlon on Sunday, Aug. 25 at Roosevelt Park. More than 200 youngsters ages 8-13 got to taste the excitement of a triathlon.
