New veterinary hospital takes
holistic approach to animal care
Dogs, kids and music lovers all had a good time at the grand opening of Green Forest Veterinary Hospital in Glen Cove, celebrated some eight months after the facility actually opened.
The festivities on Sunday, Aug. 18, offered a little something for everyone, including catered food from Tappo in Glen Cove, a bounce house for the kids and live music from Jelly Band. Pets competed for ‘best costume.’ Volunteers for Wildlife gave demonstrations and tours.
“The turnout was fabulous,” said owner Dr. Sheila Delijani. “Our clients came out to support us, plus new people came to ask questions and tour the facility.”
Vendors also lent support. The bounce house and cotton candy were courtesy of Alison’s Parties to Go. Dr. Maxine Mayreis was on hand (with her husband and kids) offering free 15-minute chair massages. Staff of the Glen Cove Animal Lovers League brought a handful of adorable kittens, which provided further entertainment for the young and old.
In the costume contest, first place was Pablo the pug, dressed as Yoda; second place was Sofie dressed as a Boy Scout; Teddy Bear the guinea pig – dressed as an angel – came in fifth place.
Green Forest Veterinary Hospital, at 120 Forest Ave., opened for business in January, but a snowstorm hit the day before the scheduled grand opening. They decided to wait until summer to do a big celebration.
A 5,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility, the veterinary hospital uses a holistic approach.
“We practice integrated medicine,” says Delijani. “I do acupuncture and use Chinese herbs and nutraceuticals to support the care of animals. We really use more preventative medicine; we present people with different options than traditional vets.”
