The Oyster Bay Historical Society will exhibit paintings from the Plein Air Competition held at Planting Fields Arboretum Historic State Park now through Oct. 6, at the Angela Koenig Center, 20 Summit Street, Oyster Bay. For information call 922-5032.

TRA Annual Meeting
The 94th annual meeting of the Theodore Roosevelt Association is being held on Sept. 19 to 22 in Buffalo, NY. The keynote speaker will be Pulitzer Prize winning author Doris Kearns Goodwin. She will be signing her latest book on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Though her book, The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism won’t be published until after the annual meeting, advance copies will be available for purchase, and Doris will sign book plates which attendees will be able to place in The Bully Pulpit once it arrives.

Arts Festival Weekend
The Oyster Bay – East Norwich Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the success of its Arts and Antique Walk held Sundays in July. “To finish off the season we are holding out first Oyster Bay Arts Festival on Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22. There is a raindate the next weekend, Sept. 28 and 29,” said Treasurer Michele Browner.

An Evening Art Stroll
Visitors will stroll through Oyster Bay on Sept. 21 from 6 to 10 p.m. and soak in the treasures of a talented community of artists and collectors who will transform downtown sidewalks into an outdoor gallery. Family Arts Festival
The Family Arts Festival on Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. will feature children’s crafts, knitting, pottery, cooking, live music, story telling, dance, martial arts, artist demonstrations, animal presentations, children’s plantings, water sports activities, food, drinks, treats and an artist marketplace. Surrealist Women
The Friends of Locust Valley Library hosts a lecture on women artists who were surrealists on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. The speaker is Ines Powell, lecturer for The Metropolitan Museum of Art. MSA Benefit Party
The Oyster Bay Main Street Association hosts its End of the Season Benefit Party at the newly reconstructed Creek Beach Club. Tickets are now $125 per person, but $150 per person after Sept. 15. Field Trip to Sleepy Hollow
The Post Library Association and the Oyster Bay Historical Society will lead a bus trip to visit Historic Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown on Thursday, Sept. 26. The tour bus leaves at 8:30 a.m. from the CW Post campus of LIU, 720 Northern Boulevard in Brookville, and returns at about 5 p.m. Please enter campus at the East Gate off Northern Boulevard and park in the first lot to the left. The cost is $95 per person for OBHS and PLA members ($115 for non-members). Transportation, lunch, tours, and light snacks enroute are all included. Tour highlights include Philipsburg Manor, the Old Dutch Church and Burying Ground, Union Church, and Sunnyside, with lunch at Bridge View Tavern. Centre Island Botanica
The Oyster Bay Historical Society welcomes author Deborah Munson Smith with a reception for her latest book, A Centre Island Botanica. The reception and book signing will take place at the Society’s Angela Koenig Center, 20 Summit Street in Oyster Bay, from 4 to 6 pm on Sept. 27. The reception is free and open to the public, with light refreshments provided. Copies of A Centre Island Botanica will be available for purchase and signing. Wellness Walk 2013
The Life Enrichment Center of Oyster Bay holds its annual Wellness Walk fundraiser will be held on Sept. 28. The Oyster Bay Cooperative Preschool will join in this inter-generational event. Meet at the center at 9 a.m. for a warm-up session. The walk is a leisurely 1.5 miles around town with fun stops included. Return to the center for refreshments, a cash prize raffle drawing and a host of other activities. Pre-register to receive a free T-shirt. Call 922-1770 for information.

Preserving Family Scrapbooks
The Oyster Bay Historical Society’s Archivist/Librarian Nicole Menchise will discuss best practices for preserving fragile family scrapbooks during the Society’s Preservation Workshop on, Oct. 8 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Koenig Research Center. Free to members of the Oyster Bay Historical Society (with special membership opportunities to those living in the 11771 zip code), $15 for non-members. The seminar will take place at the Koenig Research Center (behind the Earle-Wightman House), 20 Summit Street, Oyster Bay, NY. Attendees are encouraged to bring a scrapbook with them to discuss their individual challenges. Light refreshments will be served. Fireworks by Grucci
The Oyster Festival will celebrate its 30 years of the annual family friendly event with Fireworks by Grucci along with a musical performance by Robbie Rosen, of American Idol fame.
Food Pantry
The North Shore Assembly of God, 84 Orchard St, Oyster Bay is operating a new food pantry for the community. It is meant to supplement the growing needs of the community. It is open on Tuesdays during their prayer times: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. If you are in need of their service, please call Pastor Diane at 922-2547 and make an appointment to complete their screening process.
