Pumpkin Carving Contest
Long Islanders are encouraged to bring in their carved and decorated pumpkins to Hicks Nurseries for the third annual Pumpkin Carving Contest. Registration begins at 1 p.m.; judging begins promptly at 2 p.m. The winner of each category will receive a $20 gift certificate to Hicks Nurseries.

Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrations
Come out to the Westbury Village Piazza from 2 to 5 p.m. for music, dancing, games and other festivities as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

Candidates Night Out
The Carle Place Civic Association will be hosting its annual Candidates Night Out. Several county and town candidates will discuss their platforms at the Carle Place High School North Cafe at 8 p.m.

Long Island Weight Loss Challenge Kickoff
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (Pi Pi Omega and Theta Iota Omega Chapters) will be holding the first Long Island Weight Loss Challenge. At this kickoff event, you can register on your own, or with a team of five. You can also get nutritional, health and exercise information. Registration is $20 per team member, and all proceeds will go to a charity of the winning team. Wine Tasting
Stew Leonard’s Wines of Carle Place will offer a Grand Tasting of more 100 wines from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The wines, which will be set up on stations around the store, will be sampled to the public to taste free of charge. The Carle Place Education Foundation is having a fundraiser at Hicks Nursery. Admission is $5. There will be refreshments, music and free pumpkins for kids. From 7 to 9:30 p.m.

The varsity football game against Cold Spring Harbor will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

The parade starts at noon and kickoff for the varsity football game against Bellmore/JFK will be at 2 p.m.
Westbury Senior Citizen’s Annual Bazaar
Come to the Village Community Center at 360 Post Avenue for handcrafted gifts, jewelry, ceramics, knitted and crocheted items, lunch, homemade baked goods and more. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Family Fun Run
The Carle Place Civic Association will be hosting their 34th annual Family Fun Run/Walk Day on Sunday, Oct. 27 starting at 1 p.m. The 3 mile marked race starts in front of Carle Place High school and there will be six runner age categories (participants must be in fifth grade or older). Medals, certificates and ribbons will be awarded. The registration fee is $10. Registration will take place in the main lobby of the high school on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to noon, and the day of the race from 10 a.m. to noon. Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns
See over 5,000 hand-carved Jack O’Lanterns light up the night at the Old Westbury Gardens. Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns features the work dozens of local artists and sculptors in a unique walk-through experience that’s suitable for visitors of all ages. Advanced tickets are required and there are a limited number of tickets available per day and time. Tickets are available on a first-come first-served basis. Tickets for adults (13-64) are $18-20, child (3-12) and senior (65 and older) are $16-$18 and children 2 and under are free. The Rise will be open Oct. 11-13, 17-20, 24-27 and Nov. 1-3. Fall Festival
The Fall Festival at Hicks Nurseries includes hayrides, farm animals, the cider tent, roasted corn, popcorn, fudge apples and autumn flowers. Roasted corn will be sold until Oct. 27. Saturday, Sept. 21 through Sunday, Oct. 31.

New Cassel Farmers’ Market is an investment in yourself, your family, and your community.
