Music Institute of Long Island (MILI) located in Manhasset at the Community Reformed Church, on Plandome Road recently announced four students, including one from Plainview, were accepted and will participate in this year’s All-State Music Festival for high school students.
Violinist Amanda Hedgecock, who is from Old Bethpage and attends Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School, will participate in the festival, which is sponsored by the New York State School Music Association.
Besides receiving that prestigeous honor, Hedgecock, who began playing violin at age five, was selected to perform with the National High School Honors Orchestra, one of only 100 students selected from across the country. The national High Honors Orchestra will perform at the American String Teachers Association conference in Louisville, Kentucky.
In order to be chosen to perform in the All-State Music Festival, these musicians have received top scores in an audition process that includes preparing and performing a level six solo. This year, over 6,500 sophomores and juniors from across the state of New York prepared for All-State evaluations in the hope of being selected. Of those 6,500, only 900 were selected to participate in this prestigious festival.
Other students selected include Ellen Cooper, violinist from Albertson attending Herricks High School; Chloe Tso, cellist from East Williston attending The Wheatley School; and Dustin Liu, cellist from Manhasset Hills attending Herricks High School.
