Open Letter To Congressman Steve Israel

Since you were one of the original and prime sponsors of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, hereinafter referred to as “OBAMACARE,” I wrote to you this past August concerning your response to NSUH at Glen Cove announcing its scheduled January, 2014 closure as an in-patient hospital facility As you are fully aware “OBAMACARE”  per se was reported by the press at that time to be the major contributing factor that precluded Glen Cove’s NSUH from continuing to afford the same high levels of medical care they have provided in the past. No response from your office. No surprise! I accepted your silence then and now as evidence of your unwillingness to have addressed this issue publicly, to wit, you had no defense then and you have none now.

Moving on to a further complication brought on by “OBAMACARE!” One professional couple known to me, a husband and wife are also partners in their law firm. For a long time, as partners, and jointly as husband and wife, they had the highest premium level of satisfactory health care insurance available to them in the private sector market. But, guess what? All of a sudden, and without warning, their health care insurance coverage was canceled simply because “OBAMACARE” disqualifies husband/wife type partnership coverage. As a result this husband and wife law firm partnership is forced by “OBAMACARE” to now obtain two separate health care insurance premiums which vastly increases their health care insurance costs. Good work Congressman – Government at its best, wouldn’t you say?

Let’s hear you stand on your own two feet and justify any of the foregoing especially in light of the fact that reasonable people are presently concluding that the current administration did in fact knowingly, willfully and deliberately mislead us to believe that under “OBAMACARE” “no one would lose their present health insurance coverage?” It is now quite obvious that many of you legislators knew from the very beginning that the President was not being candid with his public statements that “no one would lose their present health insurance coverage.” There is no evidence that you personally, or anyone else in Congress, did anything to stop it or intercede in any way. Why and how did all this take place?

There is right now a ground-swell smelling of malfeasance among those of you elected public officials who then and there consorted and conspired with the President of the United States and one another to be less than truthful in regard to this and other discernible flaws in “OBAMACARE.” As a result, trust and confidence in the fidelity of government is eroding fast. It is likely you will not prevail in the next election cycle if you don’t come clean.

The honorable things for you to do now are to take a leadership stance. Fall back, regroup, and attack again. This time apply honesty and integrity with a view toward reprimanding the President combined with correcting the previous negligent acts and/or omissions of your peers. Your constituency is entitled to expect no less from you as a member of Congress.
